Madison County is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee the County's accounting, budgeting, and financial management functions. The Senior Accountant works closely with the County Clerk and Board of County Commissioners to manage both long-term and day-to-day fiscal operations, ensuring the County's financial integrity and compliance with state and federal regulations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the County Clerk and Board of County Commissioners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee accounting and financial information systems, fiscal policies, and internal controls.
· Prepare and analyze budgets, financial reports, and revenue/expenditure projections.
· Attend budget hearings to provide information and respond to questions.
· Monitor revenues, expenditures, and budget modifications for legal compliance.
· Assist with property tax levy calculations and coordinate with taxing districts.
· Ensure compliance with federal and state financial reporting requirements.
· Support payroll operations, audits, grants, and special fund accounting.
· Advise the Clerk and Commissioners on fiscal matters and long-term planning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Thorough knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting standards, and financial reporting practices.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and financial software systems.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· CPA certification or master's degree in Accounting.
· Experience with local government fund accounting, budgeting regulations, and property tax levy processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extended periods of computer work and occasional physical activity. The role may involve attending meetings or presentations with the Clerk, Commissioners, and other departments.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
· Salary Range: $95,000 TO $105,000 DOE
