DEFINITION

Manage the City's Children's Playground Program. Coordinate games, crafts and other activities for children ages 3 – 14 years old that are enrolled in the City Parks Programs and special events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direct supervision from the Recreation Coordinator and general supervision from the Recreation Superintendent.

Exercises direct supervision over the Activity Leaders and Park Supervisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community partners, and the general public.

Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.

Plan and coordinate the summer playground program. Evaluate the program each year to delete poorly attended classes and replace and add new classes of interest to participating youth.

Train instructors and assistants for summer playground program.

Perform or assist subordinates in performing duties, adjusts errors and complaints, and maintains harmony among workers.

Respond to public inquiries about playground programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.

Coordinate, schedule, and maintain related records and statistics for programs and personnel for the playground programs.

Communicate plans, policies, and procedures to staff and the general public.

Responsible for updating or revising existing policies and procedures to accommodate the changing needs of patrons.

Operate a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, helping set up tables and chairs for classes, etc.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Considerable knowledge of playground program philosophy, planning, and administration.

Skill in operation of  personal computer, including Microsoft Office software, calculator, copy and fax machine, phone, mobile or portable radios.

Ability to:

Develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Show passion, desire and enthusiasm to actively promote participation in the program.

Plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.

Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

License or Certification:

Employee must possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurability as determined by the City's insurance carrier. Click here to view our driver eligibility requirements.   

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Must be 18 years of age.

Candidates with experience leading children's activities and supervisory skills are preferred.

Working Hours:
Position will work Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.  Some weekend hours may be required.
The duration of the position is May through the end of August.

Salary:
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table.  Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
