FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
SALARY: NC SALARY SCHEDULE + LOCAL SUPPLEMENT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The One-on-One School Nurse provides individualized medical care and support to a designated student with specific health needs in the school setting. This position ensures the student's safety, monitors their health status throughout the school day, and assists with medical procedures, treatments, and activities of daily living as outlined in the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The nurse collaborates closely with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to promote the student's well-being and inclusion in the educational environment. Responsibilities may include medication administration, emergency care, feeding assistance, mobility support, and documentation of care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
? Provide direct nursing care and supervision to an individual student during the school day, including transportation if required.
? Monitor and manage the student's chronic or acute medical conditions in accordance with their
Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
? Administer prescribed medications and perform necessary medical procedures (e.g., G-tube feedings, suctioning, catheterization, seizure management).
? Respond promptly to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate emergency protocols.
? Assist the student with activities of daily living (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility, hygiene).
? Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all care provided and any health-related incidents.
? Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, school staff, and healthcare providers regarding the student's health status and needs.
? Support the student's participation in classroom and school activities to the fullest extent possible.
? Ensure proper storage and handling of medical equipment and supplies.
? Follow confidentiality and privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA and FERPA) in all communications and records.
? Participate in IEP/504 meetings and contribute to planning for the student's health-related accommodations.
? Adhere to all district policies, state nursing regulations, and professional standards of practice.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other work related duties as assigned
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
? Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited School of Nursing
? Unrestricted RN license in the State of North Carolina required
? 3 or more years experience in medical field
