Duties
Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans, while adhering to strict infection control protocols and aseptic techniques. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history and dental procedures. Perform vital signs assessments and monitor patient comfort throughout treatments to support overall health and safety. Assist with medical documentation and coding related to dental procedures for compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support front desk operations as a dental receptionist when needed, including scheduling appointments and managing patient inquiries.
Skills
Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental terminology, and anatomy knowledge. Experience with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for efficient record-keeping. Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment. Familiarity with medical imaging tools like X-ray machines and 3D scanners used in general dentistry and specialized fields like prosthodontics or endodontics. Understanding of medical terminology, medical coding, and dental terminology to accurately document patient interactions. Ability to perform vital signs assessment and monitor patient health during procedures—especially important in pediatric dentistry or when treating medically complex patients. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the dental team—including pediatric dentistry specialists—and provide excellent patient care.
