Job Title: Cook

Department: Food Services

Reports To: Food Services Director

Summary:

The Cook in conjunction with the Food Service Director in preparing appealing, nutritious and heart health, tasteful, fresh food for residents, potential residents, families, and guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares all food according to menu in a safe, sanitary manner under the direction of the Food Services Director.

  2. Demonstrates awareness and practices of sanitation regulations in handling and storing food as directed by the Department of Health.

  3. Prepares food products according to standardized recipes and menus assuring a balanced meal according to the food pyramid.

  4. Demonstrates problem-solving skills in adjusting menu as seen appropriate.

  5. Supervises kitchen staff in the absence of the Food Service Director.

  6. Operates equipment safely and properly maintains sanitary practices reporting any operational hazards.

  7. Must be able to prepare or adjust menu in the absence of the Food Service Director.

  8. Prepares food service line and serves using appropriate portions and presentation.

  9. Checks orders against invoice and properly dates and stores food using a first in-first out system.

  10. Aware of budgetary mandates and utilizes control standards to comply with mandates.

Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, residents' families, visitors and staff. Protects privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to the resident, employee, residence, company information and records.

Maintains safe and secure working environment and practices safe working habits. Complies with the attendance policy. Maintains neat appearance, good personal hygiene, and appropriate attire. Participates in training, in services, and attends meetings as required.

Assist with special projects as assigned and performs other related duties.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and read correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to communicate well with an elderly population.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding in carrying instructions. Ability to deal with situations with moderate variables.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $ $18.00 per hour
