Grinding Operator

Responsible for setting up and operating centerless grinding machines used for grinding the outside diameters of metal parts.

• Monitors machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; Stop machine when problems occur.
• Set-up and operates centerless grinders to grind metal work pieces.
• Operates centerless grinders to grind metal work pieces and place them in boxes or on racks; set aside pieces that are defective.
• Selects and mounts grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
• Use of Nital etch process to detect grinder burn and make adjustments to process as needed. 
• Performs basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts.
• Removes and replace worn or broken machine parts, using hand tools.
• Computes numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges and adjust tools to produce specified cuts.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
• Ability to quickly move the hand together with the arm or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• Precisely coordinate movements of fingers and both hands to manipulate or assemble objects.
• Recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
• Compare a presented object with a remembered object.
• Ability to compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns.

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to sit and talk or hear, walk, and climb stairs. Also, the employee must be able to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; Reach with hands, arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  The partner must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

  The Grinding Operator will frequently spend time on the manufacturing floor as well as in the office. While on the manufacturing floor, the employee must wear eye and hearing protection. Safety-toed shoes are highly recommended while being around manufacturing equipment.
