About The Role
The Senior Data Scientist, Advanced Risk Modeling, is a senior-level individual contributor role dedicated to applying advanced machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques on modern ML platforms. The primary focus of this role is to develop, validate, and deploy sophisticated models that address complex business challenges within Oscar's risk adjustment domain. The successful candidate will utilize large, complex healthcare datasets to create predictive models that improve risk assessment, help optimize healthcare costs, and enhance overall business performance. Reporting directly to the Director of Data, this role offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic decision-making through data-driven insights and innovative modeling approaches.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in industry or other quantitative technical fields, including academia.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with SQL, R, and/or Python for data querying, manipulation, and analysis.
  • 3+ years of experience building advanced data models, statistical models, or conducting complex analytics.
  • Proficiency in developing machine learning models, including regression, classification, deep learning, NLP, gradient boosting, and experimentation with large language models (LLMs).
  • Experience working with modern ML Ops platforms such as Vertex AI or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data and risk adjustment processes is a plus.
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related disciplines is preferred.
  • Experience in the healthcare, finance, or insurance industries is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive data analysis and feature engineering on large healthcare datasets to develop predictive features.
  • Design, develop, and validate advanced ML/AI models to address clinical and business challenges within risk adjustment.
  • Utilize modern ML Ops platforms for efficient training, testing, deployment, and maintenance of production models.
  • Build and sustain supporting data infrastructure, analytics pipelines, and monitoring systems to ensure model robustness and reliability.
  • Research and evaluate emerging AI techniques, including large language models and agentic frameworks, to enhance risk adjustment strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, engineering teams, and product managers to translate business needs into effective data science solutions.
  • Establish strong cross-functional partnerships to facilitate seamless integration of data science outputs into operational workflows.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities for model development and ensure successful implementation that aligns with business goals.
