SUMMARY

The Victim Assistance Coordinator is responsible for providing advocacy, outreach, and pastoral assistance to victims of sexual abuse by church personnel, especially to those who were/are minors at the time of the abuse. Responsible for engaging the diocesan community in education, training, and abuse prevention efforts. Responsible for coordinating with and reporting to diocesan leadership.

CONTEXT

This position is an extension of the Bishop's Ministry. The incumbent must have a willingness and ability to support the Mission of the Universal and Local Roman Catholic Church.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Comply with mandatory reporting requirements for alleged incidents of sexual abuse, including consultation with diocesan attorney(s) and diocesan officials.

· Provide support, assessment, and referral to victims/families and other affected persons. Provide appropriate information regarding counseling, spiritual support, and community resources.

· Provide case management in the areas of therapy, community resource referral, and follow-up counseling as needed.

· Coordinate with diocesan leadership regarding new referrals and ongoing cases.

· Regularly update the Diocesan Review Board on new referrals and ongoing cases.

· Provide educational and supportive efforts for parishes, schools, victims/families and our diocesan community.

· Provide consultation and support to the Safe Environment Coordinator regarding efforts to educate diocesan personnel in the area of child abuse and neglect prevention.

· Performing other reasonable duties and tasks assigned by Employer.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain a current level of knowledge and skills required to effectively serve in this position. This is accomplished by attending workshops or classes, by networking with colleagues, and through current professional literature.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is not responsible for the immediate supervision of employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or social sciences

· Professional training/competency in the area of counseling or social work, preferably with experience in working with sexual abuse victims

· Licensed Mental Health Practitioner or Certified Master Social Work certifications preferred

· Must be 19 years of age

· Must be eligible to work in the United States

· Must have valid driver's license

· Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

· Annual safe environment training

· Knowledge of best practices in working with victims of abuse

· Ability to perform the job duties and model behavior in accordance with the tenets of the Catholic Church

· Willingness to continue professional development and stay apprised of best practices related to the support of victims of abuse by the Catholic Church in the United States

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment is a traditional office setting with individual workspaces. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moderate noise levels in the work environment. Some travel is expected. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 10 per week
