QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: All of the following must be met at time of application except where noted:
- Master's Degree; and
- Proper Ohio Administrative License; and,
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in general education, special education, or related services (i.e., School Psychology, School Counseling, Speech/Language Pathologist).
Desired:
- Experience in leadership positions within the profession;
- Knowledge of and experience in Special Education teaching and/or Policies and Procedures;
- Knowledge of and experience in methods of assessment; systemic processes to collect data, translate assessment results into empirically based decisions about service delivery and evaluate outcomes of services;
- Knowledge of behavioral mental health, collaborative and/or consultation models and methods and theirapplication
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Implement, coordinate, monitor and supervise the provision of psychological services within Akron Public Schools which includes approximately 29 school psychologists, 4-5 intern school psychologists;
- Assist and support related service providers including, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists;
- Maintains an accurate and effective working knowledge of the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, other applicable federal and state disability laws and their implementing regulations as they relate to school psychology in general, and to the roles and responsibilities of the School Psychologist;
- Serves as district Section 504 compliance officer;
- Assists in the establishment and implementation of school policies and procedures relating to federal and state laws for special education, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act;
- Provides information to school personnel regarding federal and state laws and regulations and other topics essential for the delivery of services to children with disabilities, including Section 504;
- Provides professional support, guidance and case consultation to School Psychologist, SLP, PT, OT staff
- Assists in parent conferences, development of the ETR's and periodic reviews to ensure compliance with the referral process and mandated timelines for the ETR's and IEP's;
- Plans, coordinates and facilitates staff meetings with School Psychologist staff;
- Monitors and ensures that School Psychologist, SLP, PT, OT staff are adhering to District, state and federal compliance issues, including timelines;
- Maintains an accurate and effective working knowledge of legal cases, salient new research trends and new developments impacting the role of the School Psychologist via attending professional trainings, workshops and being a member of state and/or national professional organizations;
- Attends professional meetings and provides guidance to school teams when needed (i.e., 504 and Manifestation Determination Review etc.)
- Facilitates and organizes the ordering of psychological test materials. Provides the Director of Special Education with budgetary financial projections for anticipated future test needs;
- Maintains an accurate and effective working knowledge of and promote the utilization of the District's ongoing Multi-Tier Systems of Support;
- Supports the implementation of intervention assistance teams to guide integrated intervention services;
- Assists in creating services to intervene early with at-risk students;
- Develops and delivers ongoing staff development aligned with Federal/State compliance and LEA goals;
- Monitors caseload size to make staffing recommendations to the Director of Special Education;
- Facilitates performance evaluations for the School Psychologist staff;
- Serves as liaison between the Office of Special Education, other school districts, and other departments in the Akron Public Schools and agencies;
- Participates in general administrative functions requiring cooperative participation within the school system, i.e., Instructional Improvement Days (IID), Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences and various assigned cluster duties;
- Reports to and assumes any other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Special Education.
