Position: Rural Public Transit Director

Job Summary
SETHRA is seeking a Rural Public Transit Director to manage and oversee daily operations of its public transit system serving nine rural counties in Southeast Tennessee. The position involves planning, operational oversight, budget development and management, compliance oversight, fleet procurement and asset allocation, staff recruitment and supervision, and grant research, writing, and management. This leadership position reports directly to the Chief Public Transit Director and plays a key role in advancing the mission of providing reliable and inclusive transportation options for Southeast Tennessee's rural communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily rural public transit operations
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transit regulations
- Develop and manage operational and capital budgets
- Lead fleet procurement and asset allocation
- Recruit, supervise, and train transit staff
- Research, write, and manage transportation grants
- Travel to service counties as required
Work Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (required)
- 5+ years of public transportation experience (required)
- 5+ years of supervisory experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of public transit regulations
- Valid driver's license with clean MVR
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Background check and drug/alcohol testing required
- Must maintain DOT Medical Card
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to work in office and vehicle-based environments
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage teams and develop collaborative relationships.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in using fleet management software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.

Schedule & Benefits
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (7.5-hour shifts)
