Mission: The Family Freedom Center seeks to empower the Black Community by reconstructing cultural and socio-economic narratives and unapologetically embracing what it means to be Black, both historically and present day. Family Freedom Center will do this by exploring alternative means of education and providing resources that bridge the gap between community and members. This bridge will engage members of the organization with love, respect, guidance, knowledge, and pride. Family Freedom Center programs will foster positive change in various systemic landscapes that directly impact the Black community while being inclusive to the Duluth community at large. Position Overview:
The Restorative Practices Coordinator is responsible for implementing youth-centered restorative justice and diversion programming aligned with FWRD (Forgiveness, Work, Repair & Direction). This role supports youth in repairing harm, rebuilding relationships, and addressing underlying needs while reducing reliance on punitive systems. The Facilitator also supports Council of Harmony activities, preventative foundations at the Youth Center, and violence prevention and mediation work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with childhood development agencies to create a culturally tailored curriculum that incorporates restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and positive cultural traditions.
- Provide regular workshops and activities at The Center focused on culturally specific social-emotional learning, teaching empathy, conflict resolution, and mutual respect.
- Integrate restorative circles and peer-led discussions into daily programming to address conflicts constructively and reinforce positive behaviors.
- Conduct community engagement events, including parent and family workshops, to build connections and encourage restorative practices at home.
- Expand training for youth specialists to ensure culturally responsive care and mentorship tailored to the needs of Central Hillside children.
- Assist with Council of Harmony (COH) by training 10-12 community members in mediation, conflict resolution and restorative practices.
- Conduct outreach and education within Central Hillside to increase awareness and utilization of the COH as a resource for resolving disputes.
- Facilitate FRWD, Including restorative circles and reparation projects to address harm, rebuild trust, and foster accountability among youth participants.
- Develop tailored action plans for youth referred to FWRD, incorporating skill-building workshops, mentorship, and community service opportunities to address the root causes of harmful behavior and support long-term success.
- Strengthen partnerships with local schools and community organizations to ensure a seamless referral process to FWRD and connect youth with additional resources, such as mental health and educational support.
- Collaborate with the SLCAO to facilitate restitution payments directly to victims, prioritizing harm repair and relationship rebuilding.
- Assist in assessing eligibility for restitution support by verifying the financial need of youth and the economic losses experienced by victims, ensuring equitable access to resources.
- Attend monthly SALT meetings to review program data, gather community feedback, and ensure alignment with the needs of Central Hillside residents.
- Convene quarterly meetings with St. Louis County Restorative Practices Advisory Committees (SLC RPAC) to share evaluation metrics, discuss challenges, and collaborate on county-wide restorative practices strategies.
- Conduct regular evaluations to analyze program outcomes and identify necessary adjustments, ensuring initiatives remain effective and responsive to community needs.
- Assist in the annual evaluation process to measure long-term impacts, document best practices, and develop recommendations for sustaining and replicating restorative practices.
Qualifications:
- A strong dedication to the BIPOC community and the mission of the Family Freedom Center.
- 3 years professional experience in restorative practices.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are preferred.
- Experience working with youth, restorative justice, community mediation, or diversion programs.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and healing-centered practices.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively with youth, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive and trauma-informed restorative practices.
- Proficiency in documentation, data tracking, and outcome reporting.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
The position is part-time. Position is grant funded; in addition to other specified conditions of employment, it is understood that no guarantee of continued employment, beyond the availability of current funds, is expressed or implied by Family Freedom Center.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
