Overview:
Seeking an experienced and well-rounded Auto Physical Damage (APD) Appraiser, Total Loss Specialist, and Adjuster. Responsibilities include conducting virtual investigations of first-party vehicle damage, auditing various inspection estimates, negotiating settlements with customers and vendors, fraud detection, and to a lesser degree, liability investigations. This role demands effective collaboration with repair shops, third-party administrators (TPAs), vendors, and customers to ensure optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine if they meet eligibility criteria and identify potential fraud.
- Conduct desk reviews and prepare estimates from photos to assess vehicle damage, recommend repair or total loss, and ensure restoration to pre-loss condition.
- Verify labor rates, repair times, and part usage align with company policies such as alternative parts utilization, OEM procedures, industry standards, and state regulations.
- Provide detailed reports and cost estimates for repairs.
- Address and resolve supplemental repair requests promptly.
- Collaborate with repair shops, TPAs, and appraisal partners for quality assurance and adherence to timeframes.
- Negotiate fair repair estimates and total loss valuations with shops and customers.
- Demonstrate expertise in total loss evaluation, effectively communicating vehicle values to customers.
- Manage total loss processes, including identification, valuation, settlement, salvage operations, and auction procedures.
- Act as an expert in auto physical damage, total loss, and salvage management.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, best practices, regulations, and licensing updates.
- Deliver exceptional customer service across all communication channels.
- Maintain constant customer contact and provide updates via telephone, email, text, and in-app messaging.
- Ability to manage a constant and growing inventory of events from FNOL to resolution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in automotive technology, engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum seven years in insurance APD appraisal, total loss, and salvage management.
- Preferred certifications: I-CAR Platinum Pro-Level 3, ASE; AIC certification a plus.
- Proficiency in estimating and total loss valuation software, especially Audatex/Solera. Knowledge of CCC a plus.
- Experience managing relationships with independent appraisers, repair shop networks, and salvage vendors.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, customer service, collaboration, time & desk management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Capable of providing detailed feedback and reports to management.
- Strong attention to detail, multitasking ability, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math skills, including calculations of averages and percentages.
- Willingness to participate on camera in virtual meetings and training sessions.
- Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin is a plus.
- Ability to provide up to three professional references.
