This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing support to patients, families, physicians and staff. Responsibilities include working as a charge nurse by guiding staff and demonstrating leadership skills as a clinical expert and successful role model within the department. Job Duties
- Monitors and coordinates with Manager staffing levels, schedules and daily maintenance, employee relations, employee discipline, and performance evaluations.
- Plans, coordinates and implements staff training and quality programs.
- Creates a culture of interdisciplinary cooperation and communication by motivating staff to continuously improve performance.
- Utilizes productivity measures and adjusts processes to optimize effectiveness and efficiency.
- Observes and evaluates staff performance, providing regular performance feedback, and completing annual performance appraisals as delegated.
- Provides and ensures high quality and safe patient care using evidence-based practice, performance management, and service excellence.
- Manages customer complaints in a timely and caring manner.
- Conducts in conjunction with manager or director, regular department meetings.
- Collaborates with others to implement key initiatives and demonstrates performance improvement within the department based on quality metrics.
- Practices cost containment efforts by efficient use of time and resources, i.e., hours, patient charges, equipment, supplies.
- Serves as positive role model and mentor for department and hospital staff, establishing and reinforcing expectations of cooperation, collaboration, and respect.
- Participates in the orientation and mentoring of new employees.
- Serves as liaison between staff and physicians.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job- specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Professional Experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills required.
- Minimum two years RN experience required.
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit- Minimum three years of level II or higher NICU experience.
Education
- Education sufficient to obtain required licensure.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Neonatal ICU - PALS & NRP required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa or compact state required.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or
