Job Description
A leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee and deliver a portfolio of large capital and construction projects. This is a highly visible, hands–on role responsible for managing all phases of project execution, from scope definition through construction, commissioning, and turnover.
The Project Manager will act as the primary driver of project delivery, coordinating internal stakeholders, engineering partners, contractors, and vendors to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution within an active GMP environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Design
- Lead the development of project scope, user requirements, budgets, and schedules for assigned capital projects.
- Oversee conceptual and detailed design efforts, ensuring alignment with site needs engineering standards, and regulatory expectations.
- Review and approve engineering design packages, drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
Construction & Field Execution
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all construction activities, maintaining a strong onsite presence.
- Lead contractor and vendor coordination, daily oversight, scheduling, and issue resolution to keep field work progressing safely and efficiently.
- Develop and maintain the construction safety plan; partner with EHS to ensure adherence to all site and regulatory safety requirements.
- Ensure accurate updates to site documentation, P&IDs, as-builts, utilities drawings, and system records.
Project Delivery & Stakeholder Management
- Manage project budgets, schedules, procurement, and change control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate activities with cross-functional stakeholders (Manufacturing, Facilities, Engineering, Validation, Quality, EHS).
- Provide regular status updates and reporting to engineering leadership and internal customers.
- Interface with local authorities, inspectors, and external contractors to maintain compliance with all permits and applicable codes.
Commissioning, Startup & Turnover
- Lead commissioning and startup activities, ensuring systems are installed, tested, and qualified according to requirements.
- Support troubleshooting and field issue resolution during equipment startup and transition to operations.
- Collaborate with validation and operations teams to ensure smooth project handover.
Required Qualifications And Skills
Education
- BS in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or related field required.
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in capital projects, construction management, or engineering within biotech/pharma, industrial, or related regulated environments.
Experience & Skills
- Strong experience overseeing construction, utilities, process systems, equipment installs, or facility upgrades in a GMP or highly regulated setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-million-dollar projects through design, construction, and commissioning.
- Exceptional organizational, planning, and vendor/contractor management skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection codes.
- Comfortable navigating active construction sites and resolving field issues directly.
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface at all levels.
Preferred Skills
- PMP certification or formal project management training.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
- Prior experience in biopharma or life sciences capital projects.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast-moving environment.
