Job Description And Duties
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, the Painter II, CF, has the responsibility of maintaining the painting, glazing and signage of the institution needs through the SAMPS Work Order Request and Preventative Work Order system. Responsibilities to include Tool Control Inventory, Chemical Inventory of all supplies, maintain security, ordering supplies and conduct incarcerated persons trade and safety training. Ensures that all safety rules and practices are observed and when assigned maintains order and supervises the conduct of incarcerated persons. Prevent escapes and injury to themselves and others or to state property, maintain security of working areas and work materials inspects premises and search incarcerated persons for contraband.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Ability to: Mix paints and match colors; scaffolding and rigging; do paper hanging; estimate materials needed; keep simple records and make reports; follow oral and written instructions; read and write English at a level appropriate for the classification; and erect and paint from ladders. Must meet minimum requirements of this position.

Six years of varied experience in painting and finishing. An Associate of Arts or Certificate of Arts Degree in Painting and Finishing from an accredited community college or equivalent degree approved by the California Superintendent of Public Instruction under the provisions of California Education Code Section may be substituted for two years of the required experience. (Students who are within six months of completing their degree will be admitted to the examination, but they must present evidence of completion prior to appointment.)
