Location: London (Hybrid, Tuesdays & Thursdays in office) with regular fieldwork across the UK Type: Full-time Salary: up to £60,000 About KareHero
KareHero is on a mission to simplify the adult care journey for families. We have long-term partnerships with almost 30 enterprises and provide coverage to 1.1 million families. We help families find, fund and manage adult social care. As our Product Designer, you'll shape how carers experience our platform, from discovery through to daily use, while ensuring we're building the right things based on real user insight. Why this role matters
You'll be both the voice of the user and the person who translates that voice into beautiful, intuitive product experiences. You'll move between fieldwork with carers and care recipients, and designing interfaces that make complex, emotionally sensitive journeys feel simple and supportive. We're building products that need to be genuinely sticky, not through dark patterns, but through thoughtful engagement design that keeps families coming back because the product genuinely helps them. Your work will directly impact care outcomes for millions of people across the UK. At KareHero, design is a strategic function, not a service. We're looking for someone who challenges assumptions, pushes for excellence, and treats every interaction as an opportunity to reduce friction in one of life's hardest journeys. What you'll do
Research & Discovery
Conduct field research: in-person interviews and observations with family carers, care recipients, and local authority staff across the UK Plan and run usability testing on prototypes and live features Synthesise research into actionable insights: journey maps, opportunity identification, JTBD statements, and clear recommendations Be the connective tissue between what users need and what we build Design & Execution
Own end-to-end product design across our care and fintech products Create high-fidelity designs in Figma that are implementation-ready Design for engagement and retention, with thoughtful mechanics that drive meaningful, sustained product usage Work within and evolve our MUI-based design system Collaborate directly with engineering to ship work that matches your design intent Ways of Working
Use AI tools actively to accelerate your work. Continuously experiment with new tools, techniques, and approaches Challenge product thinking with user evidence Build durable insight and design assets the team can reuse How you'll work with us
You'll report to the Product Lead and work closely with Engineering, Strategy, and our Care Account Management team. You'll collaborate with partners and Ops to access carers, care recipients, and other participants for research. We're a seed-stage company. We work fast and expect you to balance speed with craft. You'll have real ownership over the user experience. This isn't a role where you'll be executing someone else's vision. What you'll bring
3-5 years in product design (or earlier career with exceptional output and initiative) Strong portfolio showing both visual design excellence and research-informed decisions Hands-on experience conducting user research: interviews, usability testing, synthesis Ability to design for complex, emotionally sensitive user journeys Proficiency in Figma Comfortable with frequent fieldwork: visiting care homes, carers' homes across the UK AI-native workflow: you actively use AI tools to accelerate your design and research work Curious and self-directed. You're always finding new tools, techniques, and ways of working. Entrepreneurial mindset: you take ownership, not direction Nice to have
Experience designing engagement/retention mechanics or gamification Fintech or healthcare product experience Familiarity with MUI or similar component libraries Evidence of self-initiated projects (side projects, personal work, open source contributions) Experience working in early-stage or resource-constrained environments What to include in your application
Your CV A portfolio or 2-3 case studies showing: your role in the work, research methods used, design decisions made, and how your work impacted the product or business Brief note on how you currently use AI in your design workflow Recruitment Process
1. Screening call (30 minutes) with Richa, People & Talent Lead 2. Portfolio conversation (1 hour) with James, Product Lead 3. Take-home task: you'll receive a practical design/research brief 4. Task presentation (1.5 hours) with James, and other senior members of the team. 5. Final conversation with Steph, Founder & CEO DEI & Culture
At KareHero, our work is built on empathy, care, and a deep belief in the value of every individual. From our founding, we've committed to fostering a culture where people matter, not despite their differences, but because of them. We represent a rich range of backgrounds across gender, race, sexuality, age, disability, neurodiversity, body size, religion, class, and more, and know first‑hand why DEI matters. We strive to maintain a harassment‑free, inclusive, and equitable environment, where every team member feels a genuine sense of belonging, not in spite of who they are, but across the full spectrum of their identity. Everyone at KareHero is expected to actively contribute to this culture, bringing self‑awareness, empathy, and social responsibility to all aspects of their work. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, lived experiences, abilities, and identities. If you're passionate about caregiving, equity, and creating a positive impact in the lives of working carers, you'll find a meaningful home here at KareHero. Hybrid & Benefits
