Key Responsibilities Electrical Design & Delivery
Lead electrical design activities for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Produce and review electrical designs, calculations, specifications, schedules, drawings.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards, legislation, client specifications, health & safety.
Develop cost-effective, safe, reliable electrical solutions through optioneering and value engineering.
Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, handover phases.
Power, Control & Instrumentation
Design and specify LV power distribution systems, MCCs, switchgear, UPS, standby generation.
Develop earthing, lightning protection, cable sizing designs.
Interface with ICA engineers on control systems, instrumentation, telemetry requirements.
Review supplier and contractor technical submissions FAT/SAT documentation.
Project & Stakeholder Interface
Collaborate closely with mechanical, civil, process, ICA disciplines to deliver integrated designs.
Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, operations teams.
Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP, constructability reviews, risk assessments.
Mentorship & Quality Assurance
Mentor and support graduate and intermediate electrical engineers.
Review and approve designs produced by others.
Contribute to continuous improvement of standards, templates, best practices.
Qualifications & Experience Essential
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
Significant experience in the water or wastewater sector.
Strong understanding of electrical systems used in water treatment and pumping applications.
Experience delivering designs from concept through to construction and commissioning.
Knowledge of relevant standards e.g. BS 7671, BS EN, IEC, WIMES, client standards.
Desirable
Experience working on regulated water frameworks.
Site experience including commissioning and fault finding.
Knowledge of functional safety and hazardous area design where applicable.
Familiarity with NEC or similar engineering contracts.
Technical Skills
LV power system design and protection coordination.
MCC and control panel specification.
Earthing and lightning protection design.
Electrical load schedules and cable calculations.
2D/3D CAD tools.
Design risk assessments and CDM compliance.
