Position Summary

The MRI Technologist performs MRI examinations in accordance with ACR accreditation practice guidelines and SARH protocols. The Technologist may also perform examinations, within the scope of practice, in which they hold additional certification and have determined competency.  The MRI Technologist works under the guidance and direct supervision of the MRI Supervisor. 

Qualifications/Experience

Education: 

Associate degree from an accredited school in radiology technology is required.  

Experience: 

1 to 2 years' experience in as a Radiologic Technologist cross trained in MRI for at least six months is highly preferred. 

Licenses/Certificate:

ARRT certification is required. Additional ARMRIT or CAMRT certification is preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

IV Certification

Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards 100% of the time.

Selects and operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis 100% of the time.

Correctly develops and labels film with such data as radiopharmaceutical, amount, time of injection, equipment utilized etc. 100% of the time.

Elutes radionuclide generator systems, maintaining sterile technique 100% of the time.

Successfully starts IV's in conjunction with cardiac treadmill stress testing, as authorized by physician, 98% of the time.

Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination-free condition of rooms, equipment and personnel 99% of the time.

Secures and returns supplies. Maintains room stock 95% of the time.

Reports equipment failure to supervisor using proper forms and maintaining appropriate records 98% of the time.

Serves on specific committees dealing with the use of sonar and radiation as requested

May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and film selection

Efficiently performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary 98% of the time.

Rotates within the department, works various shifts as required 100% of the time.

Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner 100% of the time.

Maintains patient records 100% of the time.

Monitors film quality 99.5% of the time.

Assists Department Director with Performance Improvement

Properly calculates radiopharmaceutical dosage, consulting physician, when necessary, 100% of the time.

Patient Safety, including pre-screening for contra-indications, Implant research and safety. Understands the difference between safe, conditional (also levels of conditional), and unsafe. Manipulates and alters protocols and techniques accordingly.

Performs MR imaging protocols and modifies technical parameters in order to maximize MR image quality, including alignment with anatomy.

Performs MRI studies according to imaging protocols set forth by the Director

Assesses the patient's history and makes the necessary changes in technique and/or positioning to compensate for pathology or other considerations

Selects appropriate coil for requested exam & positions coil to best demonstrate area of interest & to obtain maximum image quality

Performs additional tasks as assigned
