Outreach Coordinator
The overall purpose of this position is to ensure that HPUMC Outreach partnerships align with the HPUMC Mission and Vision. HPUMC Outreach aims to engage people in fighting poverty, promoting justice, and serving others. HPUMC's mission is to help people become deeply devoted followers of Jesus Christ. This position focuses on making a sustainable impact with a particular interest in increasing the availability of affordable housing, quality education, access to nutrition and healthcare, and justice.

Working Hours: This is a Full-time position that will work at least 36 hours per week.
Anticipated Schedule: Monday-Thursday 8:30am – 5:00pm (including an unpaid 30-minute lunch) and Fridays 8:30am – 12:30pm are office hours. This position requires flexibility regarding working hours as evening and weekend hours are typical for Outreach and Church Wide events.
- Habitat builds are on 16 Saturdays each year. While those are not always required working hours, Outreach Coordinators are responsible for ensuring the success of those build days, and some presence on Saturdays is an expectation.
- During certain times of the year additional hours may be necessary to meet the demands of the job. All church staff will be asked to support and serve for religious holidays and worship services including Christmas Eve and Easter, as well as Back-to-School Sunday, Serving Day and others as requested. Presence on occasional Sundays is also required to ensure that one has a firsthand understanding of the church culture as well as to be available to teach Sunday morning classes or to staff events.
- Occasional travel on mission trips in the US and abroad may be required (anticipated up to two weeks per year).
- There may be times where work is required outside of regular working hours to help with other departments serving projects and to meet with community leaders, attend town halls, or other community meetings.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work with HPUMC staff, congregants, and partners to develop strategies to fight poverty
- Serve as a liaison between Outreach Partners and HPUMC
- Outreach Partnership Coordination (Exact details vary depending on assigned partnerships)
- Work with assigned local or global outreach partners in the areas of health, housing, education, and justice to determine how HPUMC can provide support to their missions and facilitate engagement to meet needs.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key contacts for assigned partnerships.
- Identify HPUMC members to provide lay leadership for key partnerships and regular coaching and encouragement.
- Facilitate meaningful ways HPUMC congregants can engage through service.
- Have a deep understanding of Partner Organizations and their ongoing and quarterly needs and strengths.
- When appropriate and meaningful, participate in task forces, learning communities, etc..
- Attend key partner fundraisers, volunteer appreciation events, community events, etc., regularly.
- Have a detailed understanding of the history and current issues in your assigned regions.
- Outreach Serving Coordination
- Work to fulfill volunteer needs for HPUMC outreach events and HPUMC partners as needed.
- Maintain records of volunteers in the Touchpoint database
- Coordinate with HPUMC departments to support their planning and execution of serving efforts and projects.
- Communicate partner needs promptly to ensure adequate time for promotion and registration.
- Provide support and appreciation for volunteers.
- Justice Programming
- In collaboration with lay leaders, guide all aspects of Book Study programming and Justice Pilgrimages to promote opportunities for staff and congregants to engage in conversations and experiences that increase equity and inclusion.
- Attend planning trips for pilgrimages.
- Develop and implement approaches to increase engagement in justice programming.
- Assist with programs such as Serving Day, Back-to-School Sunday, Advent Festival, Christmas Gift Drive, and Classroom Connect Drive.
- Participate in coordinating the Disaster Case Management program of HPUMC when activated to assist congregation members and our community in times of need.
- HPUMC Outreach Committee
- Attend all scheduled HPUMC Outreach Committee meetings and provide partner information requested by lay committee members.
- Attend HPUMC Outreach Committee site visits to assigned partnership locations.
- Work with assigned partners to facilitate compliance with HPUMC Outreach Committee partner guidelines.
Education and Desired Skills:
- Bachelor's degree required, Education or certification in relevant field (social work, public policy, non-profit leadership, etc.) a plus
- Two years of experience working in ministry or a social service organization preferred
- Three years of experience working in equity, racial justice, or DEI
- Individuals with lived experience and a deep understanding of equity issues in large cities are encouraged to apply
- Excellent computer skills; proficiency in email, internet, and preferred software applications
- Budgeting skills
- High degree of initiative and accountability
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills
- Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills
- High level of cultural sensitivity and tolerance
- Good vision and hearing skills, ability to drive to needed destinations
- Good overall health, ability to travel to locations with limited medical resources
- Comfortable working in the developing world and staying in group lodging with very basic amenities
- Ability to manage in high intensity, high stress environments and remain calm
- Flexible and adaptable in changing circumstances
- Ability to travel internationally; current, valid United States passport
- Ability and willingness to receive vaccinations that may be required for serving locally or globally
