Position Summary:

Develops, implements and coordinates quality programs, safe activities, and participant satisfaction for YMCA READS program. Assumes full responsibility for the welfare, supervision and safety of the children enrolled in the program.

Monday - Friday 12:00pm - 5:30pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for supervision of YREADS site volunteers and mentors.
  • Plan and implement appropriate daily lesson/mentoring plan and support volunteers/mentors in carrying out activities.
  • Establish community and corporate relationships in order to promote the program.
  • Develop Ideas and implement Family Nights and communication to encourage family support of the program objectives and to build strong families.
  • Form relationships with principal, guidance staff and reading specialists at program school sites to promote a team approach to youth mentoring. Maintain positive relationships with all parties.
  • Maintains client and staff confidentiality.
  • Adhere to the YREADS program expectations and guidelines as directed by supervisor.
  • Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to the legislature, employees, volunteers, members and the community at large.
  • Ensure all governmental, YMCA, and organizational records and reporting requirements are in compliance. Complete and maintain necessary records such as attendance, parent and teacher surveys, referrals and testing.
  • Maintains consistent communication with Program Director on quality and effectiveness of program.

Qualifications:

  • Previous professional classroom experience with children
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Strong personal relations skills.
  • Practices caring, respect, faith, honesty, and responsibility.
  • Knowledge of general YMCA programs, philosophies, and objectives.
  • Ability to work in and resolve conflict situations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness and high energy.
  • Time management skills necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Must pass a Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
