The Medical Assistant Supervisor (MA/LPN) is an experienced clinical professional responsible for providing day‑to‑day leadership, supervision, and support to the Medical Assistant team. This role ensures high‑quality patient care, efficient clinical workflows, and adherence to regulatory and organizational standards. The Supervisor functions as a working lead—performing clinical duties while overseeing training, scheduling, performance, and compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership

  • Provide daily supervision, guidance, and direction to Medical Assistants.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for procedures and workflows.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, huddles, and performance check-ins.
  • Monitor staff performance, provide coaching, and assist with evaluations.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new MA staff.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical tasks including vital signs, intake, specimen collection, POC testing, immunizations and phlebotomy.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and patient education.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation within the EHR.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, HRSA, and infection control standards.

Training & Competency Management

  • Oversee onboarding and skills training for new Medical Assistants.
  • Conduct annual competencies and facilitate ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention, safety protocols, and documentation requirements.

Workflow & Clinic Operations

  • Support efficient daily clinic flow and problem-solving.
  • Develop and manage MA schedules to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Monitor patient flow metrics and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure exam rooms and clinical areas are properly stocked and maintained.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, CLIA, CDC, FTCA and organizational policies.
  • Participate in risk and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure proper vaccine management, storage, and handling practices.
  • Promote regulatory readiness in all clinical operations.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between Medical Assistants, Providers, and Administration.
  • Support a collaborative, patient-centered clinical environment.
  • Address escalated patient concerns and workflow issues professionally.

Qualifications Required

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in an ambulatory or primary care setting.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience.
  • Experience supervising, precepting, or mentoring clinical staff.
  • Knowledge of infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and standard clinical practices.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR).

Preferred

  • Experience in a community health center or FQHC setting.
  • Bilingual

Salary: Competitive; dependent on experience, licensure, and certifications.
