    SUMMARY

    The security guard will perform duties to keep students, staff and the building safe.  

    The successful candidate/team member must possess exceptional communication skills, human relation skills, be professional and self-motivated. The candidate would have a passion for helping others and possess cultural awareness/competency and understanding to support the needs of a diverse student and family/caregiver populations. 

    REPORTS TO and EVALUATED BY

    • Associate Principal for Student Experiences
    • Assistant Principal for Student Services

    PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

    Performance will be evaluated annually by the Associate Principal for Student Experiences  in accordance with District 207's support staff evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities.

    SUPERVISES

    • No direct supervisory responsibilities. May provide coordination or direction to interns, vendors, and student media teams as assigned.

    CERTIFICATION & QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in law enforcement, security, or related fields preferred.
    • Desire to contribute to the safety and well-being of students and staff  in a highly diverse school environment
    • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license;
    • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED operation preferred or required depending on district policy.
    • Knowledge of safety, security, and emergency procedures applicable to school environments.
    • Ability to observe, assess, and respond effectively to potentially unsafe or emergency situations.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with students, staff, parents, and the public.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive situations.
    • Physical fitness to perform security-related duties, including patrolling, standing for extended periods, and responding to emergencies.
    • Competency in using security equipment, such as radios, surveillance systems, and access control systems.
    • Commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and positive learning environment.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Safety and Security Monitoring

    • Actively monitor, patrol, and secure the school premises, including securing doors and other entrances.
    • Respond promptly and effectively to all emergency events or crisis situations as needed.
    • Operate scanning equipment, video surveillance systems, and related software to ensure a secure environment.
    • Maintain accurate records of security incidents, activities, and observations.
    • Complete incident reports and provide detailed information for follow-up and analysis.

    Student and Staff Support

    • Assist staff with students when appropriate, providing support in maintaining a safe environment.
    • Assist with the safe arrival and departure of students, ensuring orderly traffic flow and compliance with safety guidelines.

    Community Interaction and Customer Service

    • Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with students, families, staff, and community members.
    • Provide assistance to visitors by directing them to appropriate locations and enforcing visitor registration procedures.
    • Support extracurricular activities and school events to maintain a safe environment.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration

    WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Work Environment: Work is performed in both office and school settings across the district. The position requires the ability to attend events, take photos or video, and interact with diverse groups of stakeholders. Frequent interruptions, fast-paced tasks, and multiple deadlines are typical. Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors, occasionally experiencing exposure to various weather conditions;
    • Physical Requirements: Work is performed throughout the building with extended periods of walking and/or standing. Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 25 pounds. Requires mobility to move throughout school buildings and outdoor event spaces. Visual and auditory acuity required for media production.
    • Flexibility & Availability: Ability to accept work with interruptions in a considerate, helpful manner.
    • Professional Commitment: Communication may not always be cooperative in nature and requires tact and discretion. Expected to maintain punctuality, reliability, responsiveness, and high personal and professional standards at all times.

    SALARY & BENEFITS

    • 10-month (185 paid days) - Start Date - tbd
    • Total Number of Paid Hours/Day: 8.00
    • Total Number of Paid Hours: 1,480
    • Hourly Rate: $19.00 -$27.84 based on experience.
    • Approximately $28, $41,204.73 per year prorated first year
    • Weekend Stipend of $500.00 annually - will be prorated based on start date for the first year
    • IMRF pension � employees vested after 10 years of employment
    • 12 sick days
    • Medical & dental insurance
    • Paid term life insurance policy equal to annual base salary 

    FLSA STATUS

    • Non-Exempt

    WORKING DAYS/HOURS

    • Tuesday - Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Duties and responsibilities may require working hours beyond set hours and days,
