Position Overview
The Engineering Supervisor assists in overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering Department to ensure the hotel's facilities, equipment, and grounds are properly maintained and operating safely and efficiently. This role supports the Director of Engineering by supervising maintenance staff, responding to service requests, and ensuring compliance with brand standards, safety regulations, and preventative maintenance programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the engineering and maintenance team.
- Assist in scheduling, training, and directing engineering staff to ensure proper coverage and productivity.
- Respond promptly to guest service requests and maintenance issues to ensure minimal disruption to the guest experience.
- Perform and oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds.
- Ensure all work complies with hotel brand standards, safety guidelines, and local/state regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of the property to identify maintenance, safety, or operational issues.
- Assist with tracking work orders and ensuring timely completion through the maintenance management system.
- Support emergency response efforts, including after-hours calls and on-call responsibilities as required.
- Maintain proper use, storage, and inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with department heads regarding maintenance needs and project timelines.
- Assist with small renovation projects and contractor coordination as directed.
- Enforce safety practices, including OSHA standards and hotel emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of hotel or commercial maintenance experience, including supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and life safety systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
- Experience working in a hotel, resort, or similar hospitality environment preferred.
- Basic computer skills and experience with maintenance work order systems preferred.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional hotel kitchen setting with exposure to heat, sharp tools, and kitchen equipment. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required.
