Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Machine Shop Manager to lead our manufacturing operations. This role involves overseeing daily machining activities, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in CNC machining, fabrication, and mechanical systems, along with leadership capabilities to manage a dynamic team. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative manufacturing projects while fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of machine shop personnel, including machinists, fabricators, and technicians
  • Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment
  • Review and interpret blueprints, GD&T specifications, and CAD models for accurate production
  • Program CNC machines using CAM programming and CNC programming techniques to ensure precision manufacturing
  • Conduct quality control inspections utilizing micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify tolerances
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow and reduce waste
  • Manage tooling inventory and coordinate fabrication or procurement of necessary tooling and hand tools
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including proper use of power tools and forklift operation when necessary
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to machining processes, tooling efficiency, and safety standards
  • Maintain documentation related to production schedules, machine maintenance logs, and quality reports
  • Estimate runtimes for quoting on new parts

Skills

  • Proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, and mechanical drawing interpretation
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming (CNC milling machine, CNC lathe), CAM programming, and machine maintenance
  • Familiarity with Fusion360
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely within a manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical knowledge related to machining operations, assembly processes, and manufacturing workflows
  • Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency
  • Warehouse experience for inventory management and material handling is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills for team leadership and collaboration within a manufacturing setting

This role is integral to maintaining high standards of quality while fostering a safe work environment. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise combined with leadership skills to drive operational success in our machine shop.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
