Overview
We are supporting a direct-hire search for a Staff Software Engineer joining a small-to-mid sized product engineering organization operating at meaningful scale. This role is for a senior technical leader who can set direction across teams, raise engineering standards, and reduce systemic technical debt while staying hands-on in delivery.
This position has cross-team influence. You’ll guide architecture, improve quality and delivery practices, and help teams work smarter together across engineering and partner functions.
Responsibilities
Architecture and Technical Direction
* Set and evolve architecture direction across multiple applications and services
* Establish shared standards for code quality, testing, and engineering consistency
* Lead technical discovery and design for complex initiatives, balancing speed, quality, and maintainability
* Improve observability practices, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response readiness
* Create and maintain lightweight documentation for patterns, decisions, and onboarding
* Serve as an escalation point for debugging, performance challenges, and complex technical issues
* Enable engineers and team leads with the tooling, processes, and guidance needed to deliver consistently
Delivery and Execution
* Drive end-to-end delivery for larger initiatives, from discovery through release
* Partner with product and delivery stakeholders to clarify requirements, de-risk scope, and sequence work
* Communicate technical risks and tradeoffs clearly, early, and often
* Identify bottlenecks and improve workflow through experimentation, then standardize what works
Mentorship and Influence
* Coach engineers through reviews, pairing, delegation, and day-to-day technical guidance
* Provide structured feedback and support skill growth across individuals and teams
* Influence engineering practices across the organization through shared standards and reviews
Minimum Requirements
* 5+ years building and supporting production software systems
* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
* Backend experience with modern frameworks (.net ideal)
* Frontend experience with modern frameworks
* Strong fundamentals in relational databases and performance tuning
* Degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience

Pay: From $150,000.00 per year
