POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Expanded Learning Program (EXL) is our before and after school program located in 39 school sites across San Bernardino. Assistant Site Leaders are responsible for Assisting the Site Lead, certificated staff and EXL central office as needed with all required paperwork, student applications, attendance sheets, snack count, sign-in sheets for all EXL employees, and all other duties as required by EXL central office.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist certificated staff and EXL office as needed with all required paperwork, student applications, attendance sheets, snack count, sign-in sheets for all EXL employees, and all other duties as required by YMCA and EXL office.
  • Attend all required trainings and staff meetings as scheduled by EXL central office and YMCA Directors.
  • Assists Site Lead to monitor Youth Leaders, children and program activities. Document all activities, policy, procedures and reports in log book according to all CDE requirements and SBCUSD policies & procedures.
  • Assists Site Lead to direct Youth Leaders and assist with supervision of children in order to provide safety within ratios.
  • Assists the site lead with the coordination of staff involvement, daily activities, field trips, etc.
  • Assists Site Lead to respond to telephone, email and in-person requests daily, professionally and informatively, i.e. school district employees such as Principal, Secretaries, Teachers, parents, etc.)
  • Able to communicate successfully both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to assist with solutions to challenging situations by analytical reasoning or research.
  • Maintain ongoing communication as well as positive relationships with children, parents, staff, community members and organizations.
  • Carry out effective behavior management techniques in accordance with the YMCA and EXL behavior management policies and procedures.
  • Assists Site Lead to develop and implement a creative, stimulating and challenging program for students in alignment with the EXL vision and mission and YMCA philosophy.
  • Assists Site Lead to visually examine children upon entering program being aware of illnesses, contagious infectious diseases, signs of neglect or abuse.
  • Assists Site Lead with ongoing trainings focused on Caring, Honesty, Respect, & Responsibility.
  • Assists Site Lead to provide prompt leadership and assistance in emergency situations.
  • Maintain a professional manner and positive attitude at all times.
  • Follows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management procedures.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.     Three years of experience working with school-aged children in a school program or in other youth-related activities.

2.     Must have completed at least 72 quarter units or 48 semester units at an accredited College or University, or pass the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) examation.

3.     Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.  Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

4.     At least on year ezperiencewith diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

5.     One year supervisor experience.

6.     Strong communication and inter-personal skills.

7.     Understands the YMCA is a public accomodation committd to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Americans Disabilities Act (ADA). 

8.     Available to work 5 days a week as assigned during program hours (varies bty grade level) & must have reliable transportation.

9.     CPR, First Aid, certifications and Child Abuse prevention training writter 30 dyas of hire date/ Upon initial hiring, employees are required to obtain current negative TB test and background clearance.

10.    Must complete module classes within 90 days after hire date: 1) Developmental Trends, 2) Building Relationships with Children and Youth, 3) Understanding the Behavior of Children and Youth, 4) Developing Problem Solving Skills & 5) Homework Assistance.

Background Check:

Once a conditional offer is made, candidates will be subject to criminal background check/fingerprinting, drug screen, and physical examinations where required. YMCA of the East Valley participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
