Lead Teacher (Infants, Toddlers, or Preschool) - The Learning Lighthouse

Pay: $14.00/hour
Job Type: Full-time or Part-time (based on classroom needs)
Location: Mount Vernon, OH

Our "Why"

The Learning Lighthouse exists to be a steady, safe, joyful place for children, and a dependable partner for families. We believe early childhood is sacred work: the daily moments of comfort, curiosity, routines, and play are where confidence is built and futures are shaped.

We are a new childcare center that is growing and building something special. This role is for someone who wants to be part of that foundation, someone who sees the value in helping create the culture, the quality, and the kind of program families talk about. As the Learning Lighthouse grows, you'll have the opportunity to grow with us through training, leadership development, and increased responsibility.

If you're the kind of teacher who measures success in children feeling safe, learning to trust, using their words, taking brave first steps, and discovering "I can do it," you'll fit here.

What You'll Do

As a Lead Teacher, you'll guide a classroom team and create a warm, structured, developmentally appropriate environment for infants, toddlers, or preschoolers.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Build nurturing relationships with children through consistent care, routines, and responsive guidance
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that support social-emotional growth, language, early literacy, and hands-on learning
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized classroom that meets child care licensing and center expectations
  • Supervise children actively at all times and maintain required ratios
  • Use positive behavior supports and help children develop emotional regulation skills
  • Communicate professionally with families (daily updates, conferences as needed, partnership mindset)
  • Lead and support assistant teachers and float staff in your room (modeling, mentoring, teamwork)
  • Complete required documentation (attendance, incident reports, daily sheets, etc.)
  • Work with digital curriculum to develop and lead lesson plans.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • A heart for working with children ages 0–5 and the patience to lead with kindness and consistency
  • Professional, reliable, and ready to be a steady presence for children and teammates
  • Able to meet physical demands of early childhood work (lifting, bending, floor play, fast-paced supervision)
  • Must be able to meet background check and employment requirements for child care

Preferred:

  • Child care, preschool, or early childhood experience
  • CDA, ECE coursework, or interest in earning credentials (we love learners)

Training & Professional Growth (Provided/Required Upon Hire)

You'll be supported to complete required onboarding and ongoing training, including:

  • First Aid & CPR
  • Communicable Disease training
  • Child Abuse Recognition & Prevention
  • Staff Orientation and additional ongoing training

Benefits

We want this to be a job you can stay in and build with:

  • Paid time off: holiday, vacation, and sick days totaling 20–30 paid days off per year
  • Optional health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Pension eligibility after 1 year of employment
  • Supportive leadership, coaching, and paid training pathways

Who Thrives Here

This is a great fit if you are:

  • Mission-minded and people-centered
  • Calm under pressure and confident setting healthy boundaries with warmth
  • Organized enough to keep a classroom running, and flexible enough to handle real life with kids
  • The kind of person children run to and coworkers rely on
  • Excited to help build a new center with a strong culture, high standards, and big vision
