The Retail Superintendent is responsible for representing Franjo Construction on active retail jobsites and overseeing all onsite construction activities from start to finish. This role ensures that fast-paced retail projects-such as buildouts, remodels, rollouts, and ground-up locations-are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations and Franjo quality standards.
Retail Superintendents coordinate subcontractors, enforce safety, maintain schedules, communicate daily progress, and problem-solve onsite issues. They are the face of Franjo in the field and play a critical role in delivering successful projects on time and within budget. This position will work out of the Pittsburgh, PA location and is assigned to the Specialty Group within the Operations Department.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Field LeadershipClient Interaction
- Serve as the onsite lead and primary field representative for retail projects.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, tenant coordinators, site managers, and inspectors.
- Represent Franjo with professionalism on all day-to-day jobsite matters.
Subcontractor Coordination
- Direct and schedule subcontractors daily to ensure efficient workflow.
- Conduct onsite scope reviews, coordinate mobilizations, and ensure all subcontractors understand expectations.
- Communicate schedule requirements, changes, and two-week look-ahead updates.
SchedulingPlanning
- Maintain and update project schedules from the field.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure alignment between office and field operations.
- Adjust tasks, sequencing, and manpower as needed to keep retail projects moving quickly and safely.
- Provide accurate two-week look-ahead schedules for distribution to subcontractors.
SafetyCompliance
- Enforce Franjo's safety policies and OSHA requirements daily.
- Conduct site safety walks and ensure proper signage, housekeeping, and hazard controls.
- Confirm that permits, inspections, and compliance documentation are maintained onsite.
Quality Control
- Monitor all field work to ensure compliance with plans, specs, details, and retail brand standards.
- Identify issues early and coordinate resolutions with the Project Manager and design team.
- Manage punch lists, final walkthroughs, and ensure subcontractor completion of all corrective items.
CommunicationDocumentation
- Complete and upload daily reports, photos, manpower logs, and delivery logs.
- Track and communicate field issues, delays, and site conditions.
- Assist in preparing information needed for RFIs, change order requests, and issue logs.
MaterialEquipment Coordination
- Coordinate deliveries, storage, and staging of materials.
- Confirm material quantities, lead times, and installations with subcontractors and the PM.
Closeout
- Lead onsite closeout: punch lists, inspections, owner walk-throughs, and turnover.
- Ensure the client receives warranty information and the final closeout package.
- Leave the site clean, complete, and ready for turnover.
Additional assigned duties as required to support successful project execution.
What You'll Need to Be Familiar With
- Retail construction (buildouts, remodels, brand rollouts, open-store work).
- Commercial projects under $3,000,000.
- Fast-paced interiors: restaurants, schools, offices, dealerships, retail spaces, multi-unit housing.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, schedules, and specifications.
- Cost awareness and field-level impact on budgets.
- Effective communication, leadership, and daily coordination.
- Time management and decision-making in a fast-moving environment.
Your Success Story Includes
- 5+ years of commercial construction experience (retail experience strongly preferred).
- Prior superintendent or foreman-level leadership experience.
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and fast-track schedules.
- Strong knowledge of safety, building codes, and inspection requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience with Timberline, Procore, or similar platforms preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field preferred, or relevant experience in lieu of education.
