Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our Chicago construction team. This role offers hands-on experience supporting project managers and superintendents in all phases of construction project delivery on diverse commercial, institutional, and other projects throughout the Chicago area.
Key Responsibilities
Project Administration & Documentation
- Manage and coordinate all submittal processes in accordance with project schedules and specifications
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation including RFIs, change orders, ASIs, and meeting minutes
- Review and distribute project drawings, specifications, and updates to all stakeholders
- Generate and manage punch lists to ensure quality standards are met
Cost Control & Estimating
- Assist with project budgeting and preliminary cost estimates
- Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed estimates
- Solicit and evaluate bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
- Review and verify subcontractor extra work orders for quantities and unit pricing
Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using construction management software
- Monitor project progress and identify potential scheduling conflicts
- Coordinate construction materials and equipment delivery to maintain project timelines
Technical & Field Support
- Research and resolve drawing interpretations, conflicts, and interferences
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress and quality
- Ensure jobsite safety protocols and accident prevention measures are maintained
- Collaborate with superintendents, project managers, clients, subcontractors, and vendors
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and 1-4 years of construction-related experience
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building materials
- Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Primavera, or similar)
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred:
- Previous construction internship or co-op experience
- Familiarity with Chicago building codes and regulations
- Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar technical software
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
