Description:
Position Summary: The Citywide Coordinator performs duties to provide supports in the areas of safety, security and maintenance of order, in accordance with policies and procedures throughout New York City Public Schools (NYCPS). In addition, support efforts related to student safety and awareness in regard to youth experiencing at-risk behaviors, including offering public presentations to various stakeholders in school communities. Develops, fosters, and manages collaborative relationships with schools, community-based organizations, and for-profit and non-profit organizations that provide services to NYCPS students. Performs related work.
Reports to: Senior Manager of School Safety Transformation
Direct Reports: N/AKey Relationships: The Citywide Coordinator will work closely with other staff within the Office of Safety and Prevention Partnerships (OSPP), community-based organizations, various city agencies including the New York City Police Department, Department of Youth and Community Development, Department of Juvenile Justice, and New York City Housing Authority.
Responsibilities
- Foster working relationships and collaborate with community-based organizations and stakeholders, including intergovernmental agencies serving NYC youth and families to design and implement intervention activities targeting youth experiencing at risk behaviors.
- As a member of the Incident Response Team, responsible for supporting schools with an uptick of safety incidents and engaging community stakeholders, school administrators, staff, parents, community members, etc. to develop and implement safety systems and best practices. Work with NYPD School Safety Division and offices within NYCPS to facilitate improvement in school climate and to address safety issues.
- Assist with safety assessments in school buildings and NYCPS facilities.
- Conduct pre-visit site assessment and coordinate with jurisdictional security staff for any visits by Senior Leadership.
- Coordinate with external partners to provide security for visitors, such as dignitaries to NYCPS facilities.
- Respond to major emergencies in schools and NYCPS facilities.
- Assist in supporting schools after experiencing major emergencies.
- Provide security for high threat level individual NYCPS staff (Superintendents, Principals, etc.).
- Participate in various community meetings such as the Chancellor's Town Halls, Panel for Educational Panel (PEP) meetings, and Community Educational Council meetings.
Minimum
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
Education and/or experience, which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above
Preferred- Minimum of two years' experience in youth safety and violence prevention and/or gang prevention and intervention.
- Excellent public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Chancellor's Regulations and NYC Discipline Code.
- Familiarity with NYCPS data systems including SOHO, OORS, and LCGMS.
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in developing presentations and reports for varied audiences; ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Exceptional, detail oriented organizational skills.
- Availability to work flexible schedule and make presentations outside of normal business hours.
Salary: $72,114 - $79,325
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
