Role Summary

The Industrial Maintenance Training Instructor is a 12-month/year, full-time position that teaches lecture and lab courses for our Industrial/Manufacturing partners on our Vincennes, IN campus.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning.

  • Provide students with constructive and corrective feedback

  • Evaluate and report student attendance, attitude, attentiveness, ability to work in a team, attention to detail, and ability to learn new and complex concepts. Our customer requires student status reports on a daily and weekly basis.

  • Utilize Blackboard and other software for assignments, announcements, grades, and feedback

  • As part of a team, reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process of self-reflection.

  • Meets or exceeds professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, Dept. of Labor guidelines, requirements of Business & Industry, apprenticeship agreements, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s).

  • Absences must be minimal and only for appropriate cause; notification to the Department Manager is required

  • Help inventory and maintain the industrial maintenance lab, including all related training equipment, software, and books

  • Instructor may be asked to help develop and lead advanced manufacturing seminars, demonstrations, and tours from time to time

  • Employee will be required to attend various employee meetings, training, and other special activities as directed by the supervisor

  • This position requires minimal travel. Occasional travel for self-development or new technologies may be required.

Your Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience/Skills in most of the following: Basic AC/DC, Electric Motor Control, Sensors, VFD's, Electrical Wiring, Mechanical Drives (belts, chains, gears), Pneumatics and Conveyors, Print Reading

  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment for students

  • Excellent planning/organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Must work well in teams of 3-6 instructors with a "whatever it takes" attitude

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Instructional adaptability to meet the needs of various student groups

  • Ability to respectfully interact with others, including but not limited to; co-workers, partners, vendors, students, and customers

  • Have an enthusiasm for learning

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Excellent electrical and mechanical hands-on technical skills

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work and prioritize duties without constant supervision

  • A self-motivator with the ability and willingness to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems

Supplemental Skills / Experience

  • Associates degree in a technical field is required, Bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.

  • Industry-recognized certifications are a plus.

  • A minimum of five years of full-time experience as a manufacturing engineer, controls engineer, or similar, or experience in an industrial maintenance field is required.

  • Two years' experience in an academic teaching environment is preferred, but not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to utilize hands for training demonstrations, testing equipment, and trainer assembly/disassembly. This position requires the ability to observe and analyze details at close range and communicate to exchange accurate information with others.
