Therapy Aide (TA) and DSP

Neuro-Rehab Administrator

The TA/DSP is directly responsible for assisting clients within the PT, OT, Speech therapy setting as directed by the on-site PT, OT, or Speech Pathologist. The TA will work primarily in the Acadia gym area Tue-Fri, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and perform DSP duties each Saturday in the client's home 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Also when not assisting in the therapy area (when the NOC is closed), the TA will serve as a DSP in the client residences by providing direct care to Acadia's residential clients to maximize independent living skills (ADLs) and to facilitate active participation in a variety of environments. People in this position are responsible for the general well-being and safety of Acadia's clients and work collaboratively with all members of Acadia's therapy and treatment teams.

  1. Adhere to all regulations as per the Department of Human Services, 55 PA Code Chapter 2600 and Office of Long-Term Living (OLTL).

  2. Adhere to the applicable standards of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), our accrediting agency.

  3. Comply with all Success Rehabilitation Inc. /Acadia Neuro-Rehab policies and procedures as stated in all company manuals.

  4. Be familiar with the mission of Success Rehabilitation, Inc., and assure that the mission is integrated as part of all job efforts.

  5. Be familiar with and uphold all DHS Client/Resident Rights.

  6. Work in the PT, OT, and Speech therapy department primarily and in the residential and/or day treatment locations as needed.

  7. Meets company policy on attendance and punctuality.

  8. Provides 1:1 assistance and facilitates completion of primary TA aide responsibilities and ADLs for all clients of all skill levels as outlined in the RASP, Comprehensive Rehab Plan or other client needs profile as needed:

  9. For TA Aide work:

a. Transport clients to/from gym

b. Assist patients with mobility and transfers (e.g., to/from wheelchair or table)

c. Ensure patient comfort and safety during sessions

d. Monitor patients during exercises and alert therapists of any issues

e. Set up treatment areas and therapy equipment

f. Clean and disinfect equipment between uses

g. Maintain equipment in working condition and report malfunctions

h. Organize and store equipment properly

i. Answer phone calls and provide general information

j. Clean and organize treatment areas regularly

k. Replenish supplies (e.g., towels, gloves, exercise bands)

l. Dispose of biohazard materials according to protocol

m. Follow infection control procedures

n. Relay messages between clients and therapists

o. Assist therapists with gathering materials

p. Participate in team meetings or in-service training as needed

q. Follow all HIPAA and client confidentiality rules

r. Observe patients for signs of distress or discomfort

s. Follow emergency procedures when needed

t. Maintain knowledge of clinic policies and safety regulations

u. Disinfect treatment tables/mats between each patient

v. Wipe down pillows with disinfectant or replace pillowcases

w. Sanitize equipment used with each patient (e.g., bands, weights, balls)

x. Disinfect high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, light switches, chairs)

y. Clean and disinfect any other area or equipment associated with the OT function

  1. For DSP work (when the NOC is closed):

a. Showering/bathing

b. Toileting

c. Dressing

d. Grooming/hygiene activities

e. Room maintenance

f. Meal preparation and clean up (including assistance with feeding when necessary)

g. Laundry

h. Transfers

i. During community integration outings

j. During leisure activities

  1. Additional DSP duties:

  2. Writes, signs and submits all required daily/weekly documentation accurately and in keeping with required timeframes.

  3. Drives Acadia's vehicles to transport clients to and from outings within the community, obeying all traffic regulations and practicing defensive driving, per policy.

  4. Assists in loading, securing and unloading clients into and out of Acadia's vehicles.

  5. Provide transportation for clients as needed:

a. Food shopping

b. Personal and company-planned leisure activities

c. Approved home visits

d. Other as assigned

  1. Provides care as described by Acadia's CHW department to clients who are sick.

  2. If assigned to go to client medical appointments in the community,

a. Provides transportation for clients to and from medical appointments, relaying information from Acadia's Client Health and Wellness (CHW) department to the medical professional and bringing prescriptions and or treatment-related information back to the CHW Coordinator.

b. Completes required documentation related to medical appointments accurately and in a timely manner.

c. Ensure copies of the medical appointment summary, doctor's scripts and paperwork are photocopied and distributed to the appropriate residences and case managers.

  1. After passing DHS's medication administration test, administers medications and assists clients in the self-administration of medications as appropriate and in accordance with Success/Acadia's protocols and DHS regulations. Must pass DHS annual practicums to continue administering medications.

  2. Promptly report all significant incidents, crisis situations, and other client/staff situations during shift per chain of command, completing all required documentation before the end of the shift.

  3. Effectively responds to and safely manages angry, aggressive or otherwise inappropriate behaviors from clients utilizing effective communication methods and approved behavioral management techniques.

  4. Communicate effectively and appropriately with clients' family members and with members of the treatment team.

  5. Assists professional staff on work-related tasks as requested (therapists, supervisors, directors).

  6. Complete all mandatory training in a timely manner.

  7. Follow all Success Rehabilitation Inc. /Acadia Neuro-Rehab safety policies and procedures and use proper safety techniques as required.

  1. When working in the day treatment clinic, respond to direction and authority of clinical supervisors.

  2. When working in the residences, responds to direction and authority of site supervisors / assistant site supervisors.

  3. Regularly attend and participate in staff meetings.

  4. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Determined and agreed upon at the time of employment.

Wages and benefits will be determined in accordance with current Success Rehabilitation's personnel policies, and will be reviewed at least annually at the time of performance appraisal.

  1. Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of 50 lbs.

  2. Must be able to independently perform client transfers in accordance with Acadia's policy and procedure for client transfers, including maximum assistance transfers.

  3. Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record is required.

  4. Required to be 21 years of age or older if primary assignment is in residences; must be 18 or older if primary assignment is in the Outpatient Center.

  5. Therapy Aide experience helpful but not required, CNA, High School Diploma or GED and 6 months' experience in any of the following areas working with special needs populations:

a. Therapy Aide in PT, OT, or Speech environment

b. Human Supports Volunteer

c. Human Supports employment in Direct Care is preferred.

d. Equivalent life experience

  1. Must successfully complete all required preliminary DHS training and complete annual mandatory training requirements.

  2. Must have acceptable criminal history check and Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance (Act 33).

  3. Must maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

  4. Must be able to work regularly scheduled shifts and extended hours when necessary.

  5. Must be able to report to work during periods of inclement weather.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.48 per hour
