Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant/Tech with at least one year of experience to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to our ophthalmologist in delivering high-quality patient care. You will assist with various clinical tasks, ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a solid understanding of medical terminology, and a passion for helping patients. Full time position with 4 days in our Slidell office and one day in our Metairie office.
Duties
- Assist in patient examinations by taking medical histories .
- Prepare patients for their eye exams, including conducting preliminary tests and measurements.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure all documentation complies with HIPAA standards.
- Educate patients on post-operative care and proper use of prescribed medications or treatments.
- Ensure the clinic environment is clean and organized, adhering to aseptic techniques during procedures.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide exceptional patient care and address any concerns.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Tech is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and customer service.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and team members.
- Ability to perform eye examination pre-testing such as Visual acuity testing, VF confrontation, motility, assessment of pupils, auto-refraction, Topography, IOL Master, OCT and Fundus Photography. The ability to refract and do tonometry is preferred.
- Aseptic technique knowledge is desirable for maintaining a sterile environment during procedures.
