The Opportunity
Sterling Corporation is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to provide hands-on HR support across a multi-site, operations-driven environment that includes drivers, warehouse, and field-based roles. This role is critical to the day-to-day functioning of the business and will focus heavily on execution, compliance, documentation, and employee support.
This role is ideal for a practical, detail-oriented HR professional who enjoys being close to the business, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in getting things done correctly and consistently.
The HR Generalist will partner closely with Operations and Finance leadership and will work in collaboration with The LeadHumano Collective, escalating complex or high-risk matters as needed while owning the core HR execution work internally.
Key Responsibilities
Recruiting and Hiring Operations
· Coordinate and manage job postings and applicant flow for hourly, driver, warehouse, and professional roles
· Screen resumes, coordinate interviews, and manage timely candidate communication and follow-up
· Coordinate pre-employment requirements including background checks, motor vehicle reports, and drug screening through Sterling's vendors and systems
· Prepare offer letters and support a smooth, consistent, and compliant hiring and onboarding processOnboarding, Offboarding, and HR Administration
· Execute onboarding processes including new hire paperwork, system access, and orientation coordination
· Maintain accurate and compliant personnel files, including I-9 documentation, required postings, and records retention practices
· Process employee offboarding and terminations, including documentation, final pay coordination, benefits changes, and required communications
· Support employment verifications and documentation requests
Benefits and Employee Support
· Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions related to benefits, payroll processes, and HR policies
· Support benefits enrollments, changes, and life events, coordinating with brokers and carriers as needed
· Coordinate open enrollment logistics and employee communications in partnership with leadership and vendors
Compliance and Risk Support
Execute required HR compliance processes including leave administration support, workers' compensation coordination, OSHA recordkeeping support, and state reporting workflows
· Maintain audit-ready documentation, logs, and employee records
· Support workplace incident reporting and documentation in coordination with operations leaders and external vendors
· Escalate interpretation, policy, or high-risk compliance questions to senior HR partners as appropriate
Employee Relations and Manager Support
· Support managers with routine performance documentation and employee conversations
· Triage employee concerns and escalate sensitive, complex, or high-risk issues to Sterling leadership and The LeadHumano Collective
· Help reinforce consistent HR practices across locations and teams, ensuring fairness and alignment
What Success Looks Like
This role is successful when hiring and onboarding run smoothly, employee records are accurate and audit-ready, managers feel supported in routine HR matters, and employees experience consistent, responsive HR support. The HR Generalist plays a key role in keeping operations running effectively while protecting the organization through strong compliance and documentation practices.
Required Qualifications
5 to 8 years of HR Generalist experience, ideally within operations-heavy, transportation, logistics, warehouse, or similarly regulated environments
Strong working knowledge of HR administration, recruiting coordination, employee relations fundamentals, and documentation standards
Comfort working with HR systems, payroll platforms, benefits portals, recruiting tools, and vendor platforms
High attention to detail with strong follow-through and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Pay: $68, $79,800.00 per year
