The Empire Generating Facility is a combined-cycle power plant that utilizes two General Electric (GE) Frame 7FA.03 gas turbines and a General Electric D11 extraction-point steam turbine in a 2x1 configuration. This setup provides a total capacity of 635 megawatts. By integrating gas and steam turbines, the plant maximizes efficiency, ensuring a reliable and substantial power output.

*Opportunity Summary *
The Maintenance Technician at the Empire Generating Facility maintains, repairs, and overhauls mechanical systems supporting 2×1 combined-cycle operations, including GE 7FA.03 gas turbines, GE D11 extraction-point steam turbine equipment, HRSGs, and balance-of-plant assets. The role performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance using CMMS, troubleshoots equipment issues, supports planned outages, and completes machining, welding, and fabrication work in accordance with safety and OEM requirements. The position works closely with operations, engineering, and contractors to support safe plant operation, equipment reliability, accurate documentation, and continuous improvement.

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Technician includes the following primary functions:

  • Maintain, repair, and overhaul mechanical systems and components associated with combined-cycle operations, including pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, compressors, GE 7FA.03 gas turbines, GE D11 extraction-point steam turbine equipment, and balance-of-plant systems, including the use of welding and cutting techniques as required.
  • Execute assigned preventive, routine, and predictive maintenance tasks using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and collect condition-based data to support equipment reliability and maintenance planning in a 2×1 combined-cycle configuration.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions across gas turbine, HRSG, and steam turbine systems.
  • Monitor plant operating conditions by reading and interpreting meters, gauges, and basic instrumentation, including temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry parameters.
  • Operate combined-cycle plant equipment with minimal supervision in accordance with established operating procedures, maintenance practices, and safety policies.
  • Install piping, conduit, and mechanical components to support maintenance activities, system upgrades, and approved plant modifications, including welding and cutting associated with piping and metal fabrication work.
  • Set up and operate machine shop tools and equipment to perform routine machining, fitting, alignment, and balancing tasks.
  • Perform mechanical work during planned outages, including inspections, repairs, and component replacement on GE Frame gas turbines, HRSG systems, and the D11 steam turbine, in accordance with outage schedules and safety requirements.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor activities during maintenance and outage work to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and work scope requirements.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel to support safe plant operation, effective maintenance execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing preventive maintenance procedures to ensure alignment with OEM recommendations and Empire Generating Facility standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, spare parts inventories, and plant documentation, including manuals, technical references, drawings, and work history.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations & Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager in support of plant operations and maintenance objectives.
