This is a full time position. This position can expect shifts on Saturdays or Sundays.

General Functions:

Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Custodian will perform custodial services for all facilities associated with the YMCA.

Responsibilities Functions/Duties/Tasks

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

• Open or close the facility.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.
• Perform routine building cleaning tasks such as dusting, window washing, emptying trash and keeping the grounds free of debris.
• Perform general floor care and cleaning, including vacuuming sweeping and mopping.
• Perform heavy duty floor care such as scrubbing, stripping or waxing and be able to safely operate cleaning equipment.
• Keep soap and paper dispensers stocked.
• Set up, tear down and clean up after scheduled events such as swim meets, tournaments, classes, parties, etc.
• Cleans woman's and men's restrooms and locker rooms, including showers.
• Cleans regularly assigned areas as well other areas as needed.
• Snow removal as needed.
• Complete required training, attend required meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Janitorial experience preferred.
• Understanding of safety standards, customer satisfaction and complaint resolution.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Communicates well with co-workers, members and vendors.
• Must have basic computer knowledge (ex: email)

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with other staff
• Must be able to move about the building and grounds throughout the day
• Ability to operate vacuum, mop, broom and other cleaning tasks throughout entire work shift
• The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds
• Specific visual activity to include the ability to distinguish colors and variations of cleanliness, interpret settings on cleaning equipment and recognize safety hazards from a distance.

Work Environment

• The work is both in and out of doors. When indoors the environment is temperature controlled with normal to moderate noise levels. When working outside the environment is subject to weather extremes, subject to moderate noise and subject to mosquitos and other insects.
