PURPOSE OF POSITION: A Lead Instructor is designated, as needed, at a NexStep campus to provide on-site instructional support and help maintain efficient daily operations. This role includes a small stipend (one supplemental paid hour per day) in recognition of added responsibilities. Lead instructors will receive training on proper campus opening/closing procedures, security protocols, and processing fees.
This position is a contract-based instructional role running from January 12, 2026, through June 12, 2026, totaling 21 weeks of scheduled work, at $32 per hour. This contract includes a scheduled unpaid Spring Break from March 16–20, 2026. Contract hours total 40 hours per week, unless otherwise adjusted by the supervisor. Renewal of this contract beyond June 12, 2026, is not guaranteed and will be determined based on program need, funding, and performance.
SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS:
- Morning Instructors: Arrive early (45 minutes or 1 hour) or stay later than the other instructors as needed for site support.
- Evening Instructors: Arrive early (45 minutes or 1 hour) or stay later than the other instructors as needed for site support.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: GED Manager
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
- Must posses a Bachelor degree in Education with a strong background in ESL, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science or Math.
- Must pass a background check and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- High level of dependability and punctuality. Reliability is essential.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to support others.
- Must be an energetic team player who possess the desire to positively impact the community and create significant change in the lives of adult education students.
- Working knowledge of program systems (e.g., attendance, LACES, Microsoft Office, Teams).
- Experience may be substituted for an education degree.
SPECIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- A high level of competence is required in these areas: adult testing procedures, adult education, pedagogy, student educational advising and advocacy, adult education curriculum and instruction.
- Must be able to successfully navigate local workforce/community partnerships.

JOB COMPETENCIES: Teach math, reading, English Language Acquisition and/or other adult education subjects as needed to prepare learners to pass the GED exams and/or develop English proficiency and be well prepared for the workplace and for post-secondary education. Plan for and provide one-on-one, small group, and/or large group instruction based on student goals and assessment data. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports and sustains a program culture conducive to adult learning and professional growth.
- Instructs students in English Language, Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies.
- Provides individualized academic coaching, guidance, and problem-solving support.
- Communicates effectively with staff, students, parents, and applicants in person and by phone.
- Assists and support the coordination and implementation of education and workforce development initiatives at locations as assigned.
- Provides input into strategic planning, policies, and implementation.
- Helps students develop professional habits, including attendance, punctuality, cooperation, and appropriate workplace behavior.
- Completes all required contracts, forms, supportive service documentation, and reports efficiently and accurately.
- Tracks attendance, student progress, credential attainment, and performance measures.
- Maintains all records and files as required, including academic administrative support tasks (data entry, assessment coordination, compliance documentation).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides a quality, engaging classroom environment for NexStep students.
- Delivers effective instruction using approved curriculum and evidence-based practices.
- Ensures the health, welfare, and safety of all students and staff.
- Promotes accessibility of services and facilities for individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment.
- Provides academic administrative support, including accurate reporting, documentation, and assessment coordination.
- Engages in problem-solving efforts to remove barriers affecting student success.
- Fulfills duties as assigned to meet the requirements of a 40-hour-per-week instructional contract, spanning January through June.
- Interacts appropriately and professionally with employees and community partners.
- Maintains quality and effectiveness regarding specified student outcomes.
- Adheres to all safety procedures and report violations.
- Upholds ethical standards and maintain confidentiality.
- Supports Goodwill's mission and collaborate with other departments as necessary.
- Opens/closes the campus before and after class (including unlocking/locking doors, turning on/off lights, and ensuring classrooms, common areas and offices are secure).
- Monitors classroom readiness (whiteboards, materials, technology).
- Ensures safety protocols are followed (lights off, doors locked, etc.)
- Collects and processes material and GED Ready fees as necessary.
- Serves as the first point of contact for instructional staff if full-time staff is unavailable.
- Communicates any urgent or recurring issues (technology, supplies, classroom concerns) to ESL/GED Manager/Leadership.
- Assists with the makeup work procedure and enters makeup work hours into LACES as needed.
- Provides updates or reminders to teachers as needed (e.g., information on emails, events, etc.)
- Coordinates with coaches, coordinators, office staff, management and leadership as needed.
- Update tracking lists as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
NOTE: Must have a mobile phone and maintain it in operating order within mobile carrier's maintenance capabilities. Must pass/complete background check. Must be licensed driver.
