ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Installs, repairs, maintains, and changes out water meters. Flushes, installs, relocates and repairs fire hydrants. Installs, repairs, and maintains valves exercise program. Installs water services, taps, meters, backflow devices.

2. Repair and install water main lines. Repairs water leaks. Check low water pressure.

3. Replace meter boxes. Read meters on a substitute basis for a meter reader.

4. Installs back-flow prevention devices.

5. Provides water main and service locations.

6. Installs and maintains irrigation system.

7. Performs all work found in the Maintenance Worker classification.

8. Operates heavy equipment.

9. Maintains Inventory System

10. Assist when needed to work with theUtility Inspector/Coordinator on construction projects under the direction of theSupervisororWater Manager.

11. Maintains a FDEP Water Distribution License

12. Provides assistance in line locates for the utility department

13. Must be available to work in the event of a disaster to assist with recovery response efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to operate heavy equipment.

2. Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in the water field.

3. Ability to work from sketches, maps, andblueprints.

4. Ability to work rotating shifts including weekend duty, and emergency callout.

5. Ability to establish working relationships with other employees and the general public

6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

7. Ability to perform heavy manual labor.

8. Basic mathematical skills.

9. Skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.

10. Ability to operate computer work order system.

11. Basic computer knowledge of Office 365 and email.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

2. One (1) year experience in the water and maintenance field.

(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

  1. Valid Florida Class "B" CDL— (6 mo. from date hired)

  2. Traffic Work Zone Safety Certificate

  3. Class "C" Distribution License (obtain one year from date of hire)

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

· Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)

· Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)

· Ability to communicate both orally and in writing

· Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying

· Climbing, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, smelling, snooping, operating equipment, driving

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

· Works inside

· Works outside in various weather conditions with chemicals, electricity, and odors.

· Slippery surfaces

· Works below ground level

· Works in and around moving equipment.
