This position is located in the Facilities Management Division of the Department of General Services (DGS). On a 24-hour basis, the division is responsible for general and preventivemaintenance, operations management and oversight of various facilities/buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent is on 24-hour call and has responsibility for general and preventive maintenance and cleanliness in administrative buildings, schools and other facilities. Supervises and provides assistance to subordinate supervisors and their subordinate staff. These responsibilities include but not limited to personally ensuring that the subordinate supervisors and their staff carryout the following duties and responsibilities:opening and closing schools and facilities, maintaining tools and equipment, and making repairs to plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and tile.

Oversees the work of subordinate supervisors, who in turn manage nonsubordinate employees. The incumbent will plan overall work methods, assign work locations, and develop or review shift schedules. Also, provide input at major meetings and make short- and long-range work plans. Makes recommend changes to work schedules, develop work techniques, and set deadlines. Review subordinate supervisors' work and inspect completed tasks,coordinate work methods and reschedule work as needed and track assignment progress and collaborate with subordinate supervisors on resource requests and deadline extensions.

Qualifications and Experience

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Licensures and Certifications

The incumbent must posses a D.C. motor vehicle operator's license.

Work Environment

Work is performed in and out of doors and requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting. Uses tools and equipment requiring exercise of care to avoid injury such as cuts, bruises and strains.

Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday; 8:15AM- 4:45PM(This position is subject to 24-hour duty call)

Pay Plan, Series and Grade: SW

Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not in a collective bargaining unit

Essential Designation: This position has been designated as an essential employee position under the provisions of District Personnel Manual, Chapter 12. As such, your services may be required in emergency situations to perform crucial duties, i.e., snow removal, debris removal, transportation, shelter operations, food distribution, and communication. These duties may be performed when the government is closed or when most employees are dismissed early.

Position Designation : The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability – Safety Sensitive.
