Assistant Director – Early Childhood Education

Chappell Schools has been educating young minds for over 62 years, and we are excited to welcome a dedicated Assistant Director to our leadership team.

This role is ideal for an experienced early childhood professional who is ready to grow into a leadership position while supporting daily school operations, staff development, family engagement, and program quality. As an Assistant Director, you will work closely with the Center Director and Corporate Team to help ensure a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment for children, families, and staff.

About the Role

We are seeking an Assistant Director who is:

  • Organized, motivated, and hands-on
  • Supportive of teachers and classroom teams
  • Knowledgeable in (or eager to master) DCF and ELC requirements
  • Passionate about child development, family engagement, and staff support

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Director with daily operations and center leadership
  • Assist with staff supervision, coaching, and classroom support
  • Help manage staffing, scheduling, and labor compliance
  • Support enrollment tours, family communication, and retention efforts
  • Assist with licensing compliance, inspections, and safety protocols
  • Participate in staff training, meetings, and professional development
  • Collaborate on program quality improvement initiatives
  • Step in as acting leadership when the Director is unavailable

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of early childhood education experience
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • DCF 45 Hours completed (required)
  • CDA (Child Development Associate Credential) required
  • Director's Credential preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Strong understanding of child development and classroom management
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Bonus Qualifications (Preferred, Not Required)

  • Experience with Procare or similar childcare management systems
  • Familiarity with USDA Food Program
  • Knowledge of NECPA Accreditation standards
