Job Title: Junior Automation Engineer – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Location: Kentucky (Onsite)

Contract Length: 12 months (extension possible based on performance and project needs)

Start Date: Early January

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the configuration, testing, and maintenance of
    PLC, HMI, and automation systems
  • Assist with
    automation network and data historian
    support for manufacturing production lines
  • Help configure and maintain site-level automation systems including
    serialization, historian, and reporting platforms
  • Support installation, startup, commissioning, and qualification of
    process and utility equipment
  • Assist in authoring and executing
    IQ/OQ/PQ protocols
    , test scripts, and summary reports
  • Perform troubleshooting of automation-related issues under guidance of senior engineers
  • Support preventative maintenance activities, backups/restores, and calibration-related tasks
  • Assist in implementing automation improvements for
    drug product manufacturing and packaging equipment
  • Participate in deviation investigations, change controls, and CAPAs
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Maintenance, and Engineering teams
  • Maintain technical documentation including SOPs, PMs, and work instructions
  • Support plant engineering and maintenance activities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Engineering, Automation, Electrical, Controls, or related discipline
  • 1–3 years
    of experience in automation, controls, manufacturing, or related technical roles
  • (internships or co-op experience acceptable)
  • Basic knowledge of
    PLCs, HMIs, industrial sensors, and control systems
  • Exposure to
    industrial networking concepts
    (Ethernet/IP, OPC, etc.)
  • Familiarity with
    cGMP environments
    or regulated manufacturing preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Willingness to work onsite in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to
    pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device manufacturing
  • Basic experience with:
  • Data Historians:
    OSI PI / AVEVA PI (or similar)
  • Automation Platforms:
    Allen-Bradley / FactoryTalk
  • Databases & Connectivity:
    SQL, Kepware, Matrikon (basic understanding)
  • Understanding of
    GAMP 5
    and validation fundamentals
  • Interest in growing into a senior automation or controls engineering role
