Are you someone who is ready to make a difference within their local community? If so, the City of Flagstaff is seeking a qualified individualsto join our team We are looking for two individuals to fill the Mechanic I role and one to fill the Mechanic Assistant - Lube Technician role.

As the City's newest Mechanic I or Mechanic Lube Technician, you will actively support and uphold the City's stated mission and values. We are hiring at both entry and experienced mechanic levels to support the City's diverse fleet of light and heavy vehicles and equipment. These roles deliver excellent customer service while performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, ranging from routine oil changes to complex mechanical and electrical work. Entry-level mechanics will gain hands-on experience working alongside seasoned professionals, while advanced mechanics will diagnose and repair onboard computer systems, hydraulic, fuel, cooling, brake, and comfort control systems. Both positions work in the shop and in the field, assist with equipment installations, tire repairs, and occasional heavy equipment maintenance, and may operate service trucks as assigned. Mechanic I Budgeted Annual Wage: $ $29.82 (Hourly) / $49, $62, Annually)

Examples of the Work Performed
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Performs semi-skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of City light and heavy vehicles and equipment.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance such as lubrication, oil/filter changes, light electrical and working alongside seasoned mechanics. These functions will be carried out on all types and sizes of City vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs all aspects of a wide variety of gasoline powered automotive equipment such as automobiles, light trucks and other gasoline powered specialized equipment.
  • Assists the Mechanic I, Mechanic II and/or Leadworker with assigned tasks.
  • Repairs electrical, fuel supply systems, hydraulic systems, including master cylinder, and proportioning valves, engine cooling systems, including radiators, heater cores, and hoses.
  • May assist with heavy equipment repair or maintenance of a routine or well-prescribed nature, as assigned.
  • Make minor repairs on heavy equipment such as hydraulic hoses, cylinders and broken fittings.
  • Replaces wheel cylinders and relines and adjusts brakes.
  • Performs lubrication and oil changes on light vehicles and equipment.
  • Installs auxiliary equipment, batteries, tires, wiring, door glass, door handles, and brakes.
  • Maintains records of repairs made, work orders, and time worked.
  • Works in the field and in the shop as assigned.
  • Performs tire repair work and keep records and charge out time worked.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mechanic I Budgeted Annual Wage: $ $29.82 (Hourly) / $49, $62, Annually)

Qualifications

Mechanic Assistant - Lube Technician role:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Some work experience or training in the Automotive/Truck repair field or through a Community College, High School or vocational program is a plus, however we will train the right individual.
  • Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Trade school certificate relating to automotive mechanics.
  • ASE certification in gasoline engines and modules A1-A8.
  • ASE certified Master Automotive Technician.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • All Emergency Service Employees shall maintain their principal residence within the state boundaries of Arizona. All Emergency Service Employees, except those holding a position in Fire, will arrive at the assigned or emergency work location within one (1) hour from notification to report to duty.
  • Incumbents of this position are subject to post-employment random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must be able to furnish some hand tools for this position, including basic combination wrenches, screwdrivers and ratchet and socket sets ¼" through ½" drive.
  • Must have the ability to be contacted and to respond in a timely manner and be willing and able to work 12-hour shifts during snow removal or emergencies operations, including weekends and holidays, as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.

Mechanic I role:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three years of experience as a professional mechanic.
  • Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Trade school certificate relating to automotive mechanics.
  • ASE certification in gasoline engines and modules A1-A8.
  • ASE certified Master Automotive Technician.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within (6) months of employment.
  • CDL Tanker and Hazmat endorsements must be obtained within three (6) months of employment or within three (6) months of meeting CDL eligibility requirements.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
  • All Emergency Service Employees shall maintain their principal residence within the state boundaries of Arizona. All Emergency Service Employees, except those holding a position in Fire, will arrive at the assigned or emergency work location within one (1) hour from notification to report to duty.
