Reporting to the Supervisor, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), and working together with the OHS Specialists/Associates, the Occupational Health & Safety Associate develops and implements the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protection Programs, provides administrative support to the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs), and provides other general OHS support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Maintain and enhance the Personal Protective Equipment and Respiratory Protection Policies and Procedures;
  • Provide staff education on the proper use and handling of personal protective equipment, including gloves, gowns, eye protection, masks, and respirators as per the CSA standards, provincial guidance, and best practices;
  • Conduct audits and inspections of PPE use and prepare reports of findings;
  • Conduct qualitative or quantitative respirator fit testing;
  • Maintain fit testing records in the confidential employee record section of the Parklane computer system;
  • Prepare and maintain fit test equipment, respirator supplies and respirators;
  • Participate in continuous quality assurance as required;
  • Prepare and distribute compliance reports and fit-test reminders;
  • Collaborate with managers and supervisors to pro-actively schedule fit testing opportunities to efficiently achieve a high volume of testing;
  • Participate in and provide additional training to stakeholders as required, including ergonomics, safe lifting and safe patient handling training
  • Support the Joint Health and Safety Committees, as required;
  • Support OHS incident investigations and follow-up, as required;
  • Assist in maintaining statistics for quarterly corporate reporting;
  • Be able to travel to all Lakeridge Health locations in the Durham Region to support training and other initiatives as required
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Post-secondary education in a related field (Certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline);
  • Class G drivers licence
  • Several years' experience in a health and safety-related role is an asset;
  • Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative respirator fit tests an asset;
  • Demonstrated excellence in the provision of training and education to adults;
  • Experience with ergonomics and the provision of ergonomics training is an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in MS Office programs;
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team/cooperative approach;
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and independently;
  • Commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Must have satisfactory performance record;
