Director of DMPK - Consultant
Reporting to the CSO, the Director of DMPK is responsible for evaluating ADME properties of discovery compounds (NCEs) of interest. Includes clinical development candidates and earlier stage compounds, all of which target critical drivers of the immune system. Responsible for providing leadership and mentorship to the group and supervision of ADME assessments and bioanalysis.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible for scientific quality, technical and operational aspects of the Drug Metabolism/ DMPK/ Bioanalytical group in support of Discovery and Development Project Teams.
- Directs laboratory-based scientists/associates maintaining a laboratory presence.
- Identifies and keeps pace with evolving/ novel technologies and implementation as appropriate
- Designs appropriate studies/ endpoints and interprets and disseminates the data to the internal project teams and management.
- Responsible for assembling IND enabling preclinical PK packages to make evidence based clinical dose projections.
- Accountable for scientific excellence in Discovery, setting the standard for quality research within the DMPK group.
- Facilitates the transition of candidate compounds from Discovery to Development and coordinates execution of plans with key stakeholders.
- Maintains productive communications with Chemistry, Biology, and Development colleagues.
- Establishes effective partnerships/relationships through collaboration, expertise in current and future analytical technologies, and seamless transfer of information. Encourages and supports collaboration across departments and takes actions that will increase the likelihood of positive outcomes in Research.
- Sets high performance expectations and holds others accountable for the results expected.
- Promotes a culture of scientific and technical excellence, multidisciplinary problem solving, teamwork, consistency, flexibility, execution, quality and effective communication.
- Anticipates needs, assesses and manages business risks and organizational dynamics as well as their implications.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with relevant field experience in Bioanalysis, Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics supporting drug discovery and development of SMOLs and Biologics (Protein Therapeutics).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the above areas in the pharmaceutical industry
- Scientific knowledge of Drug Discovery, DMPK/ADME. Specific interest/knowledge in small molecule Immunology & Inflammation area a plus. Maintains current awareness in areas of expertise.
- Strong expertise in DMPK areas and directs and manages in-house and external capacities.
- Hands-on experience in analytical techniques (LC/MS-MS, MSD, ELISA ) is highly desirable.
- Expertise in Metabolite identification and characterization (SMOLs)
- Solid understanding of PK principles pertaining to small molecules (SMOLs) and Biologics (various antibody formats, proteins, etc.)
- Excellent leadership, lab management and problem-solving skills. Team player with strong mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with other functions (e.g., Chemistry, Biology)
- Expertise in modeling and simulation of PK and PK/PD data and projecting human outcomes utilizing preclinical data
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present internally and externally at scientific conferences
- Strong motivation, independence, and ability to work in a high-pace multidisciplinary environment with minimal supervision
