Building Operator, Ashton, ON

Black & McDonald's Facility Management & Operations team is expanding We are seeking committed, collaborative professionals who are eager to contribute to a hardworking and innovative team. We currently have 2 (two) Building Operator positions available in the Ashton, Ontario area.

The Building Operator position typically reports directly to the Maintenance Team Lead or designate. Their primary focus is safe and efficient operation of the facility, ensuring availability of supplies for maintenance of system equipment, and diagnosing trouble calls and developing appropriate action to be taken. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Inspecting buildings and property for safety hazards and compliance regulation violations
• Monitoring building systems performance for proper operation and maintaining building environmental systems
• Ensure building equipment, utilities and surrounding property are in good condition and running effectively
• Responding to service requests, perform troubleshooting or repairs to resolve conditions on building systems that include: HVACR, door systems, controls, automations, electrical, elevators and lifting systems, lighting, plumbing, fire detection and suppression, generators, life safety systems, security and access control and building envelope – escalate to Maintenance Team Lead when beyond their qualifications
• Supporting contract requirements for roads and grounds within site, utilities, fencing and gates within the property boundary
• Performing Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance of all contract assets
• Reporting actions required, actions taken and follow up requirements along with completion notice for all assigned work orders
• Communicating recommendations for the betterment of the facility
• Maintaining accurate and up to date information in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Ensure availability of supplies for maintenance activities.
• Performing general housekeeping of the O&M building areas.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Must possess a Building Environmental Systems Operator II certification, a Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC), or an equivalent qualification.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Building Operator with 1-3 years' facilities maintenance and operations experience.
• Basic electrical awareness (non-licensed level).
• An understanding of Fire & Life-Safety panels.
• Strong technical capabilities in building systems, equipment and assets.
• Heating & cooling systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), safety & compliance, and diagnostic tools knowledge.
• Basic plumbing skills.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent customer service skills in ensuring client requests are responded to professionally and promptly.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces and/or working at heights.
• Be able to balance multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment while meeting strict contract performance objectives.
• Provide technical maintenance expertise, compliance & documentation skills along with agility, adaptability, problem-solving under pressure, time management and client relationship management skills.
• Ability to navigate a building automation system (BAS/BMS)
• Bending and lifting (under 30kg) required.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• The hours of operation for the new contract are 06:00 to 19:00 hrs., with two potential shifts. 06:00 – 14:30 hrs., or 09:30 – 19:00 hrs.
• This position will also participate in an on-call rotation to support on-site coverage.

Due to contractual requirements, candidates must be Canadian Citizens who are able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (Canadian Citizen with 10 years of continuous residency within Canada).

This position's wage rate follows the 787 Union Agreement schedule.
