In accordance with the OAPSE bargaining agreement, article 11.01 the Bexley City Schools District has an opening for a:
OAPSE Classified Position: Custodian II
Position Location: Cassingham Complex
Position Hours: Full-time, 3rd shift: (10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.)
Position Workdays: Sunday - Thursday
Reports To: Supervisor of Custodial
Position Salary Range: starts at $24.35 p/hour (no experience) up to $27.37 p/hour (with verifiable experience) plus shift differential of $0.50 per hour for shift beginning after 9:00pm.
Job Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Custodial performs routine custodial duties; sweeps, dusts, and mops floors and applies wax, vacuum carpets, dusts furniture, and equipment; cleans windows, walls, and desks; cleans and disinfects classroom, hallways, stairwells, and restrooms; shovels snow from sidewalks and steps; performs other related duties as requested or required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies commonly used in custodial services, custodial procedures, methods and techniques, safety practices and procedures; ability to follow oral and written instructions, perform heavy manual labor tasks, develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and the general public; skill in operation of custodial equipment.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance practices and procedures; ability to utilize hand and power tools, identify potential problems, and take corrective action.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Shall possess sufficient physical health and stamina to perform all requirements of the job assigned.

Equipment Operated:
- Vacuum cleaners, slow-speed floor scrubbers, auto scrubbers, and carpet extractors
- Wet/dry mops and brooms
- Wet and dry vac
- Snow removal and landscaping equipment
- Power washer
Performance Responsibilities:
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by the classification. Duties may not be performed equally within the classification.
- Ensure the safety of self, staff, and students
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wax floors
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails, and pencil sharpeners
- Remove cobwebs and clean windows
- Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials
- Transport all necessary school maintenance and custodial supplies
- Ensure the care, condition, appearance, repair, or replacement of all physical equipment, building, facilities, and grounds
- Clean and disinfect assigned schools, e.g., stairwells, classrooms, spills, etc.
- Cleans and disinfect restrooms, restocks restroom supplies, and unclogs toilets
- Help with setup and cleanup for various school activities
- Use chemicals as per directions and SDS Sheet
- Clean carpets
- Wash all furniture, walls, halls, windows, window seals, and doors
- Disinfect water fountains
- Remove graffiti on walls
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
- Dispose of debris and maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner
- Report to the Head Custodian or Supervisor of Custodial any damaged, broken, or loose fixtures and/or equipment
- Request needed equipment, materials, and supplies
- Perform seasonal duties such as salting and snow removal, litter removal, etc., as directed by the Supervisor of Custodial
- Refill soap dispensers, hand sanitizer, paper towel dispensers, and bathroom tissue in all school building restrooms
- Secure building nightly
- Report any identified damaged equipment or buildings as needed
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Check the building to assure maximum security
- Keep work and storage areas neat and orderly
- Tour the building periodically and remain alert for dangerous, hazardous conditions, or items in need of maintenance
- Set up equipment and furniture for special events and use of the building for school and community functions
- Clean hallway glass display cases
- Promote good public relations
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Perform routine maintenance as required
- Assist with major repairs as assigned
- Assist work crews on assigned tasks
- Adjust to various locations and work requirements as needed, perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Custodial
Additional Working Conditions:
- May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. Must follow all safety guidelines for blood-borne pathogens and all safety protocols under their employment.
- Ability to interact in a positive and supportive manner with staff, students, families, and community and be respectful of the variability of cultures, including socioeconomic status, family types, etc.
- Occasional requirement to work near moving mechanical parts
- Occasional requirement to work in high places
- Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, e.g., a requirement to work outdoors during all types of weather
- Frequent exposure to dangerous chemicals, e.g., such cleaning chemicals
- Must often plug in and unplug electrical equipment
- Must occasionally work around asbestos using proper procedures and equipment
- Must often work around chemicals, in confined spaces, and on electrical equipment
- Must sometimes work and drive in inclement weather
- Frequent operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
- Frequent requirement to travel throughout the district
- Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee
- Frequent exposure to outdoor and inclement weather conditions, i.e., the requirement to work outdoors during all types of weather
- Frequent exposure to loud noises
- Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull large and heavy items up to 60 lbs with proper lift equipment
- Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., waxing, mopping, sweeping
- Frequent requirements to sit, stand, climb stairs or ladder, stoop, kneel, crouch, hear, and and identify different colors such as electrical wiring or warning signs
- Occasional requirement to lift and carry various items up to a maximum of 65 pounds
- Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels)
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled workdays, except calamity days
- Frequent excessive standing, e.g., to perform repairs
- Frequent requirement to walk, e.g., cleaning, making deliveries
- Occasional requirement to travel to other buildings
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
