PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under the direct supervision of the College & Career Readiness Program Director, the Welding Instructor will deliver high-quality instruction—through hands-on training, demonstrations, and classroom-based learning—to teach proper welding techniques, safety practices, and industry standards essential for participants pursuing careers in welding. The Welding Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing NCCER-aligned curriculum, coordinating lab-based activities, and preparing participants for industry-recognized certifications. This role plays a vital part in shaping skilled, confident, and employable welding professionals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop, update, and maintain NCCER-aligned welding curriculum and supporting instructional materials.

· Instruct program participants in welding theory and practical applications using approved curriculum and training standards.

· Provide structured hands-on training across a variety of welding techniques and processes.

· Demonstrate proper use of welding equipment, tools, and materials with a strong emphasis on safety and OSHA-aligned practices.

· Collaborate with the College & Career Readiness Program Director to plan and manage program budgets, including equipment, consumables, and instructional resources. Maintain accurate supply and materials lists.

· Maintain and update equipment and tool inventory spreadsheets as new items are purchased or replaced.

· Support hiring partners, local employers, and industry mentors who engage with participants in training and placement efforts.

· Collaborate with industry professionals to enhance training programs and align participants for employment opportunities.

· Ensure that participants successfully complete coursework, assessments, and certification preparation required for employment pathways.

· Facilitate workshops and additional training sessions as required.

· Provide administrative support for Skilled Trades and Workforce Development initiatives, including program documentation, reporting, and event participation.

· Assist with recruitment by representing the welding program at outreach events, school visits, Club tours, and workshops; track inquiries and follow up with prospective participants and families.

· Stay current on welding technologies, equipment, codes, and instructional best practices to ensure program relevance and quality.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding lab and instructional environment.

· Track and document participant attendance, skill progression, assessment results, and certification completions.

· Participate in department meetings, professional development, and ongoing trainer certifications as required.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

PROGRAM SUPERVISION

· Provide active supervision continually interacting with all participants while providing coaching and mentorship during program training.

· Ensure the instructional area is clean, secure, and properly maintained, and verify that equipment is functioning correctly.

· Ensure that program tools and equipment are in good condition and instruct participants in the proper, safe, and responsible use of the equipment.

· Serve as a positive role model and mentor to all participants, reinforcing professionalism, work ethic, and industry expectations.

· Collaborate with volunteers, mentors, and industry professionals to support training activities and address participant needs.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

· Assist College & Career Readiness Program Director to cultivate new relationships and steward existing relationships with welding employers, apprenticeship programs, technical schools, and industry partners.

· Participate in partner site visits, community outreach efforts, welding demonstrations, career fairs, and other events to promote workforce pathways.

· Support efforts to align training outcomes with employer expectations, workforce trends and evolving industry demand.

· Participate in special programs and events as needed.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Works in close partners with College & Career Readiness Program Director, workforce team, and various departments as appropriate.

External: Maintain contact with external vendors, volunteers, corporate partners, and other groups to achieve goals and objectives.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  1. Technical certificate or associate degree in welding technology.

  2. Minimum of five (5) years of professional welding experience with a demonstrated ability of leading training programs.

  3. Certified Welding Educator (CWE) credential.

  4. Prior experience delivering instruction, training, or mentoring in an educational or workforce development setting.

  5. Strong knowledge of industry-recognized welding certifications, codes, and standards (e.g., AWS, NCCER).

  6. Demonstrated proficiency with modern welding equipment, tools, and emerging technologies.

  7. Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills conducive to teaching diverse learners. Ability to tailor instructional strategies to accommodate multiple learning styles and skill levels.

  8. Proficiency in a range of welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick)

  9. Deep understanding of welding theory and principles.

  10. Ability to read, interpret, and teach from welding blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.

  11. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in both instructional and technical contexts.

  12. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe training environment and modeling industry best practices.

  13. Patience, professionalism, and a genuine dedication to supporting student growth and success.

  14. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.

  15. Must have solid technology skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and database applications.

  16. A strong orientation to safety in the workplace is a must.

  17. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, community groups and other related agencies.

  18. Must be committed to the Boys & Girls Club mission and values.

  19. Bilingual preferred.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
