Happy Nook is a boutique, play-based early childhood program in Los Angeles serving infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role based in Los Angeles, CA for the position of Director at Happy Nook.

The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operations of Happy Nook, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and high-quality early childhood program. This role oversees staff, supports classrooms, partners closely with families, and ensures compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22).

Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations, staffing and scheduling, onboarding and mentoring teachers, maintaining licensing and health & safety standards, and serving as a warm, visible leader within the school community. The Director works closely with the owner to support enrollment, family communication, and the continued growth of Happy Nook while upholding its play-based, child-centered philosophy.

Qualifications

Meets California Title 22 Director requirements (ECE units, admin units, and required experience)


• Eligible for or holds a Child Development Permit – Program Director or higher


• Minimum 2 years of teaching and/or supervisory experience in a licensed child care center


• Strong knowledge of licensing, compliance, health & safety, and staffing ratios


• Experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children


• CPR/First Aid certified and Mandated Reporter trained


• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills


• Warm, professional, and aligned with Happy Nook's nurturing, play-based philosophy


• Spanish proficiency a plus
