Position Overview

You must be based in California or willing to relocate to California upon starting this position. This is a remote position with 5-10% travel required.

We are seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst to join our client's utility focused analytics team. Our client is a rapidly growing consulting company with plans to grow nationally. You will be operating in a fast-paced environment where high standards and technical excellence are expected.

Location:
Remote with limited travel required to client site 1-2 times per month

Work Authorization:
Must be authorized to work in the USA or have Canadian Citizenship.

About the Role

You'll serve dual functions as both a technical business data analyst and key team member in managing data automation and development projects. You'll transform data into actionable insights through Power BI dashboards, automate workflows using Python and Power Automate, and lead Agile ceremonies while holding the team accountable to delivery commitments. This role requires someone who can operate independently, handle technical complexity, and thrive under a manager known for high expectations.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Analysis & Development

  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards, converting Excel-based reporting into dynamic visualizations
  • Develop automation solutions using Python and Power Automate to streamline data workflows
  • Perform data analysis to support vegetation management and easement operations
  • Create and maintain data engineering processes
  • Develop custom interfaces and web-based solutions using HTML (intermediate to advanced level)
  • Write complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
  • Utilize R programming for statistical analysis and data modeling

Scrum Master Duties

  • Facilitate all Agile ceremonies (daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, demos)
  • Manage project workload and tasks in JIRA (must have hands-on JIRA experience)
  • Hold team members accountable to commitments and sprint goals
  • Track velocity, burndown, and other Agile metrics
  • Monitor team progress and identify blockers or capacity issues
  • Coach team members on Agile best practices

Required QualificationsTechnical Skills

  • 5+ years
    hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Apps (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps Development)
  • 5+ years
    Python programming experience with proven ability to build automations and data pipelines
  • Intermediate to Advanced SQL
  • complex queries, joins, and database manipulation
  • Intermediate to Advanced HTML
  • custom interface development
  • R programming
  • beyond entry level; must be able to independently build statistical models and analyses
  • JIRA proficiency
  • must have direct experience managing projects and engineering tasks in JIRA

Certifications & Soft Skills

  • Active Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM, SAFe, or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to hold technical teams accountable
  • Strong data engineering mindset with ability to review and validate others' work
  • Self-starter who can work independently under minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills for facilitating meetings and stakeholder engagement
