Job Summary:
As a Tax Analyst, you will have a key role on the Finance team by supporting D2L's global commodity tax compliance function as well as global income tax function. This role includes analyzing financial data, preparing commodity tax filings and reconciliations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations, and assisting with tax audits and inquiries. You will research tax laws, monitor regulatory changes, and assess their impact on D2L's commodity tax function. As a subject matter expert, you will partner with cross-functional teams to support compliance, provide guidance, and help drive process improvements. You will also support the global tax team by contributing to the preparation of income tax provisions, assisting with supporting workpapers for income tax returns and transfer pricing reports, and helping to create schedules and reports required for financial reporting. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and contribute to the continued success of the Finance organization.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Prepare, reconcile and analyze commodity tax related workpapers, reports and supporting documentation, as required.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on commodity tax, providing support to the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and travel/expense functions as needed.
- Execute D2L's global commodity tax compliance function, including the preparation of tax returns in a timely and accurate manner, ensure related payments are made, and liaise with external tax advisers as needed.
- Support the proposal and global deal desk teams by serving as an in-house tax specialist in commodity tax matters, as required, to complete successful proposals and/or bids.
- Prepare income or non-income based tax returns in various global jurisdictions.
- Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with IFRS.
- Ensure compliance, and proper tax recordkeeping in relation of tax payments, informational tax filings, and other tax authority requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assist with internal and external audits, compiling required documentation.
- Stay current on important global tax developments and assess impact specifically to D2L current or planned future operations.

Suggested Qualifications/Experience:
Work Experience Recommendations:
- Relevant accounting and global commodity tax experience (GST/HST/PST/Sales Tax/VAT)
- Relevant Canada income tax experience; other jurisdictions will be considered an asset
- Experience assisting with financial audits
- Experience preparing or reviewing indirect tax returns, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Familiarity with tax concepts related to cross‑border transactions and SaaS digital services is an asset
- Experience in a global, multi-currency organization is an asset
Education Recommendations:
- Post-secondary education in business and finance/accounting
- In-Depth courses I, II, & III preferred
- Working toward CPA designation
Location Information: This role is open to applicants within Ontario. Our ideal candidate is located in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and is able to work in a hybrid model at our global HQ (137 Glasgow Street Suite 560, Kitchener).
